Martha Frances Meyer
Martha Frances Meyer, 91, of Yorktown, died on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. She was born on Sunday, June 5, 1921, in the Gruenau Community near Yorktown to the late Herman and Anna Wild Buchhorn.
Martha was a seamstress and did sewing and alterations and worked at the Golden Thimble in Yorktown and also did babysitting.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She was a faithful and active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the church women's organization and circle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gurenau Hall, Hermann Sons, belonged to a dance club and several domino and Bunco clubs and Young at Heart. Her greatest joy was being with her family and friends.
Martha married Alvin Pfeifer on June 5, 1940, and they had two daughters. After Alvin's death, she married Emil Meyer on July 31, 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Alvin Pfeifer and Emil Meyer; brothers, Gus Buchhorn, Ben Buchhorn, Arnold Buchhorn, and Louis Buchhorn; sisters, Hermina Geyer, Alvina Alex, and Agnes Sinast.
She is survived by daughters, Dianna Sturm and husband William of Port Lavaca and Kathie Fehner and husband Arlen of Yorktown; grandchildren, Karen Sturm, Rev. Craig Sturm and wife Kerri, John Fehner, and Mark Fehner and wife Aimee; great-grandchildren, Madison Hickman, Emma Sturm, Ty Fehner and Dylan Fehner.
Visitation was held from 2 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Finch Funeral Chapel. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Finch Funeral Chapel.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Muehlbrad officiating. Interment followed at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
