Elkhart “Moe” Moehrig Jr., 84, of Yorktown, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013.
He was born April 27, 1929, in San Antonio, to the late Elkhart Sr. and Minnie Rau Moehrig. He was a supervisor for Southwestern Bell/AT&T and retired after 38 years of service. He served in the US Army as a sergeant in the signal corp.
Moe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Rouse Moehrig of Yorktown; sons, Scott and Diana Moehrig of Bay City, Jeffrey Moehrig of Cuero; daughter-in-law, Diane Moehrig of Victoria; sister, Charlene Foerster of Floresville; grandchildren, Jamie and Chris Hedrick of Kaneohe, HI, Jenny and Clay Green of Ganado, Barry Moehrig of Austin, Brad and Kim Moehrig of El Campo, Jeff Moehrig of Victoria, Jacob Moehrig of Victoria, and Marley Moehrig of Victoria; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Moehrig.
Moe loved camping, fishing and hunting. He taught his sons valuable lessons about living off the land and how to appreciate the blessings in their lives. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved taking his grandchildren on camping trips. He and Shirley enjoyed numerous RV trips across the United States and Canada. He was a man that loved God, his country, his family, and most of all, his wife.
Pallbearers will be Scott Moehrig, Jeffrey Moehrig, Barry Moehrig, Brad Moehrig, Jeff Moehrig, Jacob Moehrig, Clay Green and Chris Hedrick. Honarary pallbearers will be Jamie Hedrick, Jenny Green, Marley Moehrig and Kim Moehrig.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17 at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be at 10 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
