While it is not surprising, it is staggering.
DeWitt County Appraisal District delivered the newest appraised values to all the taxing entities here last week.
Because of the Eagle Ford Shale production, mineral values increased by at least $1 billion over last year for one-third of those taxing bodies.
Leading the growth was DeWitt County. The report showed the county’s total market values increased by $3.3 billion over the previous year. This year’s net taxable value was posted at $5,524,136,440. That compares with the 2012 value of $2,189,120,150. (Five years ago the total taxable value in this county was $928 million.)
