Many factors can make trees more susceptible to diseases. These include: heat, drought, flooding, lightning, animal damage, construction damage, soil compaction, wildfire, among others. Often the best way to prevent tree diseases or help trees recover is to keep trees healthy. However, there are certain diseases such as live oak wilt that can affect healthy trees. To help folks understand proper tree management techniques and certain tree diseases, the newly formed City of Cuero Tree Board, along with the DeWitt County Extension Service, is sponsoring a Tree Disease Workshop.
Dr. David Appel, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Plant Pathologist, will be the guest speaker. He will be discussing important tree diseases such as live oak wilt, but he will also talk about the importance of maintaining trees in healthy condition in order to minimize disease conditions.
