Report questions $100,000 late payments

New procedures may be on the table to see that DeWitt County pays its jail inmate and indigent inmate medical bills on time in the future.
In their meeting Monday morning, commissioners learned local pharmacies and medical care businesses were complaining the county is behind on paying its bills by about $100,000.
A report from County Auditor Carrie Rea indicated the problem was learned when the county received a collection agency letter from one of the local pharmacies. She said much of the overdue amount is from bills received in the previous budget year.
Sheriff Jode Zavesky told commissioners he was unaware the inmate medical bills were not being paid.
