Two high school seniors injured in two vehicle accident

Two Yorktown High School seniors traveling west on State Highway 72 on Dec. 11 at approximately 9 p.m. were involved in a wreck while attempting to avoid an accident.
Victoria Pena, 17, was traveling in a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe on the highway when two dogs ran out in front of her vehicle. In an attempt to avoid hitting the dogs, she slowed down still hitting one of the dogs.
Danielle Parella, 17 was driving a 1996 Honda traveling in the same direction behind Pena. According to the sheriff’s report Parella was unable to stop safely behind Pena and struck the rear of the vehicle.
Pena was injured and was taken by ambulance to Citizens Medical Center and later transferred to University Hospital in San Antonio. She has been reported to be in stable condition.
Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt and no citations were issued.
The accident was investigated by the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department.
