Two story house fully engulfed in flames

Cuero firefighters have seen a busy start to 2014 with over 16 calls in just the first 20 days. Cuero Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene of a structure fire around 10 a.m. Monday, Jan.  20 at the intersection of Cypress Valley and Thomaston River Roads. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story wood frame home fully engulfed in flames. Cuero firefighters responded with four units and assistance was provided by Nursery VFD with two units. DeWitt County Precinct 4 was also on scene with a backhoe to aide firefighters in sifting through the smoldering rubble. Firefighters cleared the scene just after 3 p.m. No one was injured in the fire; however, a family pet did perish.
