Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and millions of people around the United States are dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease and increasing knowledge about prevention during the month of February.
But for Yorktown mayor Rene Hernandez, it is more than becoming aware since he had a stroke on Jan. 27. For Hernandez it is a second chance to do what he knows is right.
“Life is too short. I felt that this is a sign from God. I am fixing to be a grandfather and that Cole [unborn grandson] wants me to stick around and coach his little league team,” Hernandez said.
