“It’s a great day to be a Gobbler.”
Most who work with Cuero High School principal Michael Cavanaugh will likely remember and continue to use his trademark phrase long after he retires.
“I can’t remember where I came up with it — maybe I was making some announcements or something like that, and it just happened,” Cavanaugh said. “Too often, we deal with negativity and we want our kids to be positive. If you walk around with a frown on your face all the time, [the students] are going see that and the teachers are going to see that. I want kids coming to school and happy to be here.”
Cavanaugh, who retires in June, began teaching after retiring from the Army in 1993.
“I never dreamed I would get into education,” Cavanaugh said. “It was kind of a stroke of luck for me. It’s been 20 years and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. It’s just great being with the kids.”
