Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department was recently awarded a brush truck through the Rural VFD assistance program of the Texas A&M Forest Service. The Texas A&M Forest Service reimbursed 90 percent of the cost while Meyersville was responsible for 10 percent of the cost associated with the new truck.
Jared Karns, regional fire coordinator for Texas A&M Forest Service, presented a check for $96,260.40 to the Meyersville VFD on July 3.
Bruce “Moon” Gohmert, Meyersville VFD president and fire chief, said the department currently has approximately 20-25 active firemen and 85 members. The department also has two brush trucks. He credits to Texas A&M Forest Service for providing the means to purchase the new truck for the department.
