As we begin year two in the new high school, I must stop a minute and take note of the wonderful year just past. We began in a beautiful new building with high hopes and roughly 140 students. We embraced Yorktown ISD’s theme “Excellence in Rural Education” and we established the campus theme to “Restore the Roar.” Together, we did just that. State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) scores are up in all five areas. We exceeded the State of Texas in United States History, English 2, and English 1. We made a 36 percent improvement in Algebra 1 and a 10 percent improvement in Biology. Attendance for the year was 96.33 percent. That is an improvement of 1.2 percent overall. We graduated 33 students and did not have any dropouts. We did well in University Inner Scholastic (UIL) academics in district and at the state meet; the AG team came in first place at district; the volleyball team went to the regional tournament; and several students completed advanced placement (AP) credit and dual (high school and college) credit classes through Victoria College. There is much to feel good about!
