Last week, Yorktown Independent School District board members Todd Metting, Dannette Respondek, Patti Harbers and Mark Weischwill traveled to Corpus Christi to attend the Texas Association of School Board’s Winter Governance and Legal Seminar. We attended two full days of sessions which included two exceptional presenters to start each day. There were numerous choices of session, topics such as legal updates, perspectives in ethics and handling grievances to name just a few.
Metting said, “One session that I found interesting was put on by a school district serving the King Ranch. They take advantage of the fact that almost every student now has a smart phone, which they allow them to use in classes. Filters are in place to block inappropriate websites while allowing access to educational sites and for research. This is also helpful for districts on a budget.”
