Pickett – Jones engagement

Charla and Bobby Jones of Cuero are proud to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kayla Elizabeth Jones of Cuero, to Logan Taylor Pickett of Cuero. Logan is the son of Kristene and Greg Pickett of Cuero. Kayla graduated from Texas State University in May 2014 and is now the manager of Teaghlach Meadows, Bed and Breakfast & Event Center. Logan is the ranch manager of M2 Weldon Ranch and Teaghlach Meadows. The couple will wed on Jan. 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Cuero.

Green-Avery earns degree

Armand “Monte” Gren-Avery, son of Dawn Green and Terry Avery, grandson of Johnnie V. Green and the late John “Buddy J.” Mathis and nephew of Darcel Green, graduated from Abilene Christian University on Friday evening, Dec. 11 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Kinesiology and Nutrition with a Tracking in Sports and Recreation Management from the Department of Education and Human Services. The 2015 Fall Commencement Ceremony was held at Moody Coliseum.
 
Monte was recognized earlier during the day and presented with an ACU Banner by the president of ACU, Director of Athletics and coaching staff during the graduation reception for graduating athletes.
 
Monte is a 2011 graduate of Cuero High School where he excelled in football, basketball and track/field and was named the Victoria Advocate Male Athlete during his senior year in 2010-2011.

Ryilee Ann Sappington

On Sept. 21,2015 an angel was born. Richard and Missy Sappington are proud to introduce their daughter Ryilee Ann Sappington. Ryilee weighed 5 lbs 1 oz and was 17 inches long. Ryilee was welcomed by her brothers and sister ,Josh Blaschke, Cody Lubyinesky and Makenzie Lubyinesky. She is adored by her grandparents Milton & Diane Blaschke and Louise Truede all of Cuero, Jack and Ann Sappington of Halletsville. She’s also welcomed by her niece and best friend Brynlee Jae Blaschke.

Braygen Porter Blaschke

Maegan and Brandon Blaschke of New Braunfels are proud to announce the birth of their son, Braygen Porter Blaschke, on Sept. 18, 2015, weighing seven pounds and five ounces and 19.75 inches in length. Braygen has three siblings: Mylah, Grayslin and Emmry Blaschke. His grandparents are Wayman and Nancy Krueger of New Braunfels and Michael and Kim Blaschke of Yorktown. His great-grandparents are James and Neva Autrey of Iredell and Billie Blaschke of Shiner.

Matejek family reunion

The 36th Matejek family reunion was held Oct. 25 at the Yorktown Fire Department meeting room. Upon arrival, family members enjoyed visiting and preparing for the noon meal, consisting of a variety of delicious foods and desserts with the blessing given by Hayden Leist.
 
During the business meeting, a time of silence was observed to remember Robert Baker of Lubbock who passed away since last year’s reunion. Prizes were then awarded to the oldest lady, Evelyn Janyssek; oldest gentleman, Buddy Wolff; youngest child, Kinley Leist; longest married couple, Buddy and Shirley Wolff; longest distance traveled, Nancy Bostick; first time attendee, Jacob Schoener; kid’s prize, Hayden Leist; main door prizes to Douglas Vogel and Georgia Matejek.
 
A live auction was then held to raise funds for next year’s reunion which will be held Oct. 30, 2016 at the same location.

Valenzuela completes boot camp

Joshua Adam Valenzuela graduated from Navy boot camp on Oct. 16 in Great Lakes, Illinois. He will attend Nuclear Engineer school for the next two years in South Carolina. He is the son of John Harvey and Beatrice Valenzuela.

75th wedding anniversary

Laura and Fritz Hilbrich, bottom left to right, are pictured with their children celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in October 1980. Their children are from left Sonny Mueller, Alice Lee Parker Hilbrich and Eppie Hilbrich. Laura and Fritz were married Nov. 7, 1940. October 2015 would have been their 75th anniversary.

Community treasures

Mrs. Emma Leck turned 98 on Oct. 15, and Ms. Willie Marie Kahlich turned 95 on Sept. 26. They are very independent, mobile, live in their own homes, still drive and attend Mass at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. They are active in the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America and the community of Cuero. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, both young ladies were recognized and honored with a birthday celebration at the St. Michaels Annex. They are two treasures of the Catholic community of Cuero and an inspiration to all who desire to live a long, healthy and happy life in Cuero. Sobotik–Jendrzey engagement

Sarah Michelle Sobotik and Jeffrey Edward Jendrzey, both of San Antonio, are pleased to announce their engagement. Sarah is the daughter of Mark and Debbie Sobotik of San Antonio.
 
She is the granddaughter of the late Ben and Lorene Sobotik of Taylor, and the late Johnny L. Mock and Maxine H. Cook of Austin. Jeffrey is the son of Ralph and Gail Jendrzey of Yorktown.
 
He is the grandson of the late Edward and Lucille Jendrzey of Yorktown and the late Raymond and Marie Schendel of Runge.
 
Sarah is a 1999 graduate of Winston Churchill High School in San Antonio, and a 2006 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy. She is employed by START, South Texas Accelerated Research Therapeutics, in San Antonio.

Elida Gonzales celebrates 90th birthday

A birthday celebration was held in honor of Elida Gonzales who celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends on Sept. 19 at the Cuero Clubhouse.
 
The celebration was given by her loving family, her son Eddie Gonzales and wife Rosemary, daughter Hilda Nanez and husband John, her grandchildren Melissa Howland and husband John, Mark Gonzales and wife Meg, Alyssa Nanez, and her great-grandchildren Jake and Sam Gonzales.
 
Other guests in attendance were her sisters, Rachel Ruiz and husband Frank and Dorothy Chaffee and husband Terry, several cousins from California, special friends Beverly Lincke, and Nancy and Kenneth Hahn from Cuero.
 
A special surprise was a Mariachi performance by her nephew Fred Trevino, Jr., his daughter, Debra Carmona and Debra Cantu. Over 100 guests enjoyed the music and celebration.
