Dennis Pargmann

Dennis W. Pargmann, 68, of Nordheim, passed away March 3, 2016. He was born July 28, 1947, in Cuero to the late Larry Omar and Alvina Deiringer Pargmann. 

Dennis is survived by his wife, Esmeralda Pargmann; daughters, Tammy Ledwik (David), Kathy Pargmann (Cory), Pam Pargmann and Tracy Pargmann; sister, Donna Reynolds (Dennis); brothers, Larry Pargmann (Frances) and Jimmy Pargmann (Pat); grandchildren, Sheldon Lassmann, Shelby Pargmann, Kaitlyn Watson, Kaleigh Jozwiak, Corey Pargmann, Bryleigh Flores and Korbyn Molina; numerous nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 7 at Finch Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at Finch Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sue Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Nordheim Cemetery.

Janice Ocean

Janice Terlene (Terri) Morrow Ocean, 77, of Austin, passed away on Feb. 24, 2016. She was born in DeWitt County on Nov. 23, 1938. She graduated from Cuero High School in Cuero and graduated from Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career took her to Abilene; Anaheim; Garden Grove, California; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Austin. She specialized in pediatric, adolescent psychiatric and home health nursing, ending her 50-year nursing career at Meridell Achievement Center in Liberty Hill.

Terri Ocean enjoyed shopping at resale stores for treasures, collecting buttons, hearts, and other collectables. She loved cooking, decorating, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Chapter R, PEO, in Austin.

Harold H. Stirl

Harold H. Stirl passed away at home on Feb. 26, 2016 in Austin at the age of 89. He was born on Feb. 24, 1927 to Ernest Albert Stirl and Hedwig (Gaedke) Stirl. He graduated as Salutatorian of his class at Nordheim High School and attended Texas Lutheran College. He married Snooks Messamore, his high school sweetheart, on July 7, 1946. They settled in Nordheim and raised three children.

Harold partnered with his father selling insurance and operating a service station. Later his brother Lawrence joined them. In 1970 Harold went to work for Coastal States as national maintenance manager, where he worked for over 20 years. He retired in 1991 and they moved to Columbus.

Lavern Martha Schueneman

It is with immense sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our precious mom, grandmother, sister, and friend, Lavern Martha Schueneman.

Lavern was born the middle child of three daughters to Charles and Martha Diebel on March 18, 1919. She married Lawrence Schuenemann on Dec. 31, 1936. She passed from this world on Feb. 24, 2016, a mere three weeks before her 97th birthday.

Lavern lived her life surrounded by those she loved, entertaining them often with her quick wit and warm sense of humor. She especially loved teaching German phrases to those that gathered around her, later testing them to see if they remembered her earlier teachings. She loved cooking, gardening, playing dominoes, and spending time with her family and her dog, BeBe.

Lavern is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence Schueneman; her son, Larry Schuenemann; her sister, Audrey Dornburg; and her parents, Charles and Martha Diebel.

Richard “Dick” Guzy

Richard “Dick” Guzy, 66, of Coleman, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 in Brownwood. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yorktown. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Richard “Dick” Guzy was born June 12, 1949 in Yorktown to John Guzy and Cecilia Janyssek Guzy. He grew up in Yorktown and graduated from high school there. On Aug. 12, 2011, he married Nikki Laws Donham in Coleman.  Richard worked as an elevator mechanic for Otis Elevator for 32 years and later worked for Thyssen and Krupp Elevator before retiring. Richard moved to Coleman in 2009. Richard was a member Holy Cross Catholic Church in Yorktown, member of the Elevator Union and a very proud grandpa.

Harlan Nagel

Harlan Nagel, 86, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016. He was born Nov. 29, 1929 in the old Koehler House on the farm he lived and worked on his entire life. His parents, the late Henry A. and Olga Sager Nagel raised Harlan in the only church he knew his whole life.  He was baptized, confirmed, married; and baptized and confirmed his children in the Zion Lutheran Church of Arneckeville.

He married Edieth Zengerle on Dec. 10, 1949. Edieth and Harlan shared 66 years of love. Survivors include daughters, Mary Leida (Steve) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Judy Hohne (Bob) of Houston; sons, Patrick Nagel and Robert Nagel both of Cuero; grandsons, Hans Leida (Sarah) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nathan Nagel (Amy) of Clear Lake, Joshua and Matthew Hohne of Houston; great-grandchildren, Levi, Sam and Miles Leida of Minneapolis, Logan and Olivia Nagel of Clear Lake; sister-in-law Marjorie Schellenbarger of Cuero; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Paul Gebauer

Paul Joseph Gebauer, 84, of Cuero passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016. He was born Nov, 27, 1931 in Placedo to Frank and Albina Gebauer. He married the love of his life, Jessie Belle Wiseman, on Dec. 12, 1953 in Vernon. They were married for 62 glorious years.  Paul served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and cooking for them. He loved to cook and was known for his Chili and Kolaches. He enjoyed visiting with his nieces and nephews. He worked for Weber Motor Company for over 30 years and continued to enjoy visiting there after retirement.

He is survived by his daughters, Paula (Virgil) Brown of Cuero and Sharon (Ira) Epstein of Round Rock; grandchildren, Haley (Christopher) Urbanovsky of Cuero, Michael Epstein of Austin, and Melissa O’Brien of Gainesville.

Johnny Hahn

Johnny Lee Hahn, 68, of Cuero, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2016. He was born Jan. 17, 1948 in George West to the late Jacob and Barbara Hahn.

Johnny is survived by wife, Patricia Johnson; daughter, Amy Hahn and son, Fennis Green; sister, Lorene Williams and brother, Jerry Lee Hahn.

Services will be held Monday, Feb. 29 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis King officiating.

Vincent DiGiantomasso

Vincent Joseph DiGiantomasso, 86, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016. He was born Jan. 26, 1930 to Joseph Anthony and Rose Marie DiGiantomasso in Detroit, Michigan. Vincent married the love of his life, Marlene Ann Ruschhaupt, on Dec. 22, 1952 in Cuero. He served in the United States Air Force from July 1948 through July 1952 and played semi-professional baseball for the Victoria Rosebuds as shortstop. Vincent enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid golfer.

He is survived by daughter Cheryl Ann DiGiantomasso; and grandchildren, Andrew Vincent Moore and Jessica Gonowon of Cary, North Carolina and Sarah and Dustin Turner of Austin.

He was preceded in death by parents; and wife, Marlene.

Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. with a Memorial Service starting at 3 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Father David Berger officiating.

Marjorie Wright

Marjorie Wright, age 93, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.

She was born Sept. 12, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas to F.B. Lowry and Bess Lowry.

She was a junior high school teacher in Arlington for 29 years and a Methodist.

Survivors include daughters, Jayne Kennedy Cooper of Cuero and Nancy Ashenhart of Arlington; son, Michael Kennedy (Sandee) of Cleburne, Texas; grandchildren, Anthony Eckenrod (Vangie) of Yorktown and Jennifer Abernathy (Billy) of Plano; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Gray and Natalie; sister, Betty Leatherwood of Victoria; step-son, Tom Wright (Mary) of Little Elm and step-daughter, Alice Payn (John) of Allen.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Jerry A. Kennedy and Jasper Wright and sister, Barbara Farmer.
