Gloria Pickett

Gloria Pickett went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 19, 2015, passing peacefully at her home after a long battle with a respiratory illness. A longtime resident of Kingwood, Gloria was born to Norman and Eva Schostag on July 26, 1934.


Leebell Kuecker

Leebell M. Kuecker, 83, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015. He was born January 27, 1932 in Cuero to the late Louis and Anna Kuecker. He married Audrey F. Hausman on July 10, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Victoria. Leebell was a military maintenance supervisor for 32 years and retired from the Civil Service and from the Army National Guard of Texas as a First Sergeant. He served on the Cuero Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid craftsman and carpenter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Audrey Kuecker; sons, David R. Kuecker of Kyle, Gary L. Kuecker of Friendswood, Steve W. Kuecker of Victoria, and Glen A. Kuecker of Yoakum; sister, Nelda Haschke of Angelton; brothers, Sterling Kuecker of Cuero, Lionel Kuecker of Victoria, Farrell Kuecker of Goliad, and Willburt Kuecker of Cuero; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

James Thomas

James Edward Thomas entered into eternal rest at the age of 72 on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015. He was born on Jan. 11, 1943 to the late Booker T. and Jessie Stewart Thomas, Sr. in Cuero. 
He is survived by his wife Lois Thomas, sons James Brownlow of San Antonio and David Lemon of Luling; his daughters Pastor Gracie Calvin of San Marcus and Edna Wilson of Columbus City, Georgia; brothers Walter (Margaret) Thomas of Cuero; and sisters Vivian Payne of Tampa, Florida and Jenny Belle Jefferies of Seguin. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Booker T.  Thomas, Jr., and his sisters Bessie Mae Franklin, Earline Hopkins, and Hazel Hopkins. 

Annabel Randow Horny

Annabel Randow Horny, 94, of Yorktown passed away Thursday Oct. 15, 2015.  She was born Dec. 15, 1920 in Yorktown to the late Robert and Anna Woytek  Randow. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Yorktown. She worked at Yorktown Community Bank for 21 years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and loved animals.

She is survived by her husband, of 76 years, John N. Horny, sons John R. Horny and wife Wanda all of Yorktown, Darrell Horny and wife Monika of Statesville NC; grandchildren Dale Horny and wife Gretchen, Donya Robinett and husband Larry; great grandchildren Cruz and Sofia Robinett and Blake Horny and Amy Janssen, Tabitha Horny; great great grandchildren Zane Wyatt Horny.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lornette Barringer.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday Oct. 19 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Oct. 20 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.


Angela Stall

Angela Marie Barta Stall, 50, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015. 
Angela was a proud graduate of Cuero High School, and a life-long, devoted labor and delivery nurse. A talented crafter and avid quilter, she was always willing to take the time to teach an eager learner. Continually making gifts for others, she had a passion for showering people with her generosity. Angela had a zest for life that was only matched by her desire to care for those around her.

Charles "Chuck" Wilson

Charles “Chuck” Wilson, 63, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015. He was born May 12, 1952 in Cuero to the late C.R. Bob Wilson and Doris Starnes Wilson. 
He went on to marry the love of his life, Janice Cook Wilson, on June 20, 1972 in Victoria. He spent the majority of his life serving in law enforcement. He worked as a DPS officer, a sergeant and a detective for the City of Cuero. He worked at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and also served as the County Constable, and the Municipal Judge in Yorktown and Cuero. Chuck also took over as owner of Tex-San, his father's pest control business, in 1989. He was an avid hunter and a proud member of the National Rifle Association.

Lyndon Allen, Sr.

Lyndon Dale Allen, Sr., 80, after a long battle with cancer went to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. He was born on Aug. 20, 1935 in Wicks, Arkansas to J.T. and Helen Thorton.
Lyndon had two great careers. He proudly served in the US Navy for 24 years. 
Upon retiring, he then became a teacher in Kingsville, where he retired. 
Lyndon Dale was a friend to many and dearly loved by his family. Lyndon was a member of the Fannin United Methodist Church. He loved God, country and family until his death.
 He was married to the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Allen, for 54 years until her death.

Suzanne Lee Collins

Suzanne Lee Collins, 64 of Yorktown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. She was born May 26, 1951 in Weslaco to the late David and Noca Poulos Markle. She graduated from Donna High School in 1970 and attended Pan American University for two years. Suzanne worked as a teacher’s aide in Donna, dispatcher for Western Co. of North America in Edinburg and B-J Hughes in Bryan. She moved to Victoria and worked for Culberson Well Service, P & A Supply, teacher’s aide at Aloe School in Victoria. She moved to Yorktown where she worked for Elder Oil Tools, then moving to the DeWitt County Appraisal Office.

Suzanne is survived by her daughter Tracie (Roger) Pawelek of Pleasanton, son John (Heather) Young of Yorktown, brother David Markle of Donna, grandchildren Cameron Shirley, Gage and Adyson Pawelek, Preston and Paislee Young.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harry and Jim Markle.


Jane Clark Haley

Jane Clark Haley passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the age of 86. Jane Haley, daughter of Ewing D. Clark and Lena Crockett Clark was born on June 1, 1929 in Brownsville. She is survived by Husband James (Jimmy) D. Haley, by Daughters Laura Haley Taylor (James) and Debbie Haley Taylor, and by son Clark Haley (Michelle) and by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Patrick Ewing Haley. Jane and Jimmy Haley owned and operated Haley’s Sporting Goods for over 15 years before they retired and sailed away on their beloved “Afterglow,” a Morgan 38 sailboat. For over ten years, they sailed throughout the Bahamas, Mexico and the Caribbean. In 2000, Jimmy and Jane built a home on property they owned in Gillette. They loved the place so much, they made Gillette their permanent residence in 2003. Family and friends remember Jane as the admiral of the family.


Talbert Wendel

Talbert Wendel, 74, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. He was born September 22, 1941 to the late Victor and Regina Kornfuehrer Wendel.
He graduated from Cuero High School in 1960. Talbert served six years in the National Guard and retired from Union Carbide with 35 years service. He established Wendel Sandblasting in 1976 which is still in operation today.
Talbert is survived by his wife Jo Ann Hoefling Wendel, son Gordon Wendel (Jean) of Mission Valley, son Jason Wendel (Michelle) of Meyersville, daughter Molly Meyer of Meyersville, stepdaughter Lisa Hilliard (Walter) of Victoria, sister Patty Thieme of Victoria, sister-in-law Burma Wendel, brother-in-law Bill Obsta (Kim), and mother-in-law Lillian Obsta. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rian Wendel, Matti Wendel, Kerilyn Wendel, Brooke Wendel, Mason Meyer, Madison Meyer and step grand-daughter Emma Hilliard.
