Abundio "Al" Arguellez

Abundio “Al” Arguellez, 66, of Cuero passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015. He was born July 11, 1949 in Yorktown to the late Porfirio Arguellez and Juanita Arguellez. He was a Yorktown High School graduate and went on to attend Austin Technical College and achieved his Master Mechanics certification. He was also an active member of Guadalupanos Organization Spanish Choir, lecturer, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Janice Morawietz

Janice Kaye Morawietz, age 65, of Cestohowa, Texas passed away Sept. 20, 2015. She was born Oct. 25, 1949 in Kenedy to Albert Boldt and Ida Warwas Boldt. 
 
She graduated in 1968 from McCollum High School in San Antonio. She and Hubert Morawietz were married on Mar. 3, 1973 in Cestohowa. She was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa where she was a member of the Altar Society and on the Parish Council. She was a retired secretary having worked for CCC Group of San Antonio for many years. 
 
Janice is survived by her husband Hubert Morawietz of Cestohowa; son Kevin Morawietz and wife Melissa of Gillett; grandsons Hunter and Luke Morawietz of Gillett; sister Carol Arthur of New Braunfels; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Robert James “Rub” Riedel, Sr.

Robert James “Rub” Riedel, Sr., age 89, of Gillett, passed away on Sept. 14, 2015. He was born on May 3, 1926 in Gillett to Fritz and Fannie Bess (Murry) Riedel. Rub was a life member, a director emeritus, and a hall of fame inductee of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. He was also a longtime cattle buyer and rancher. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beatrice “Bea” (Barloco) Riedel; and a sister, Dorothy Hyatt. Rub is survived by his children, Rub Riedel, Jr. and wife Tina of Gillett; Renee Wheat and husband Than of Nixon; sisters: Shirley Senard of Gillett and Mildred Walters of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Dub Ayers of Gary; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Helen Gomez

Helen R. Gomez, 86, of Cuero passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015. She was born August 18, 1929 in Nixon to the late Leonardo Rocha and Guadalupe Montalvo Rocha. She married the love of her life, Joe O. Gomez, in 1946. She loved family gatherings, cooking, gardening, holidays, attending Bible studies, and enjoyed gospel singings. 
 
She is survived by her daughters, Lupe Galindo of Cuero, Rosemary Compian of Victoria; sons, Jesse Gomez of Austin, Joe Gomez, Jr. and wife, Mercedes, of La Marque; sister, Josie Fuentes of Corpus Christi; brother, Paul Rocha of San Antonio; grandchildren, Kevin Galindo, Michael Galindo, Calvin Gomez, Amber Salazar, Michael Delgado, Steven Deleon, John Delgado; and 14 great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband.

Elaine Boston

Elaine Wilkinson Boston, 90, of Westhoff passed away Friday, September 18, 2015. She was born August 4, 1925 to the late Edmond Wilkinson and Era Stone Wilkinson. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Baptist Memorial School of Nursing in San Antonio. She went on to marry the love of her life, Joe Boston in 1948. Elaine became a registered nurse and worked in San Antonio at various hospitals in the operating rooms. She retired in 1979 as the Director of Operating and Recovery Rooms at San Antonio Community Hospital after 33 years of nursing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cuero, and a life time member of V.F.W in Cuero and American Legion Auxiliary in Westhoff.

Eric Tomanec

Eric Randall Tomanec Ph.D., 53, of Cuero passed away Thursday, Sept. 17. He was born December 10, 1961 in Cuero to Joseph D. and Jane P. Tomanec. Eric earned his Eagle Scout in January 1976, received an Associated of Applied Arts from TSTC in Waco, and received his Bachelors of Applied Arts and Sciences from the University of Houston in 1987.
 
He then went on to receive his Masters of Arts from the University of Houston and his Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Texas, Austin in 2010. Eric was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a teacher for 27 years at both the middle school and collegiate levels.

Ernest Thomas

Ernest “E.J.” Thomas, 60, of Cuero passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2015. He was born January 12, 1955 in Cuero to Tommy Thomas and Vivian Elizabeth Gardner Thomas. 
 
He is survived by his parents; sisters, Yvonne Gardner-Strait of Cuero, Cynthia Thompson of Victoria, Gwen Moroe of Pflugerville,  Tommie Williams of Round Rock, Angela Dowell of Pflugerville; brothers, Jerald Thomas of Cuero, Ervin Thomas of Katy, and Marlin Thomas of Manor.
 
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church in Cuero on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Roy Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. 
 
Memorial contributions may be made out to First United Methodist Church in Cuero.

Helen Pullin

Helen Louise Zuber Pullin, 75, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015. She was born June 20, 1940 in DeWitt County to the late Paul Zuber and Annie Henkes Zuber. She went on to marry the love of her life, Billy Arlis Pullin, on Nov. 25, 1956 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Cuero. She owned a daycare and after retirement, enjoyed being a foster parent for 10 years. Helen attended St. Michael's Catholic School in her youth, and was a member of the altar society. She was a member of Catholic Daughters for 50 years and served as Regent Director. She always cherished the time spent and memories made with her family.

Rick Meitzen

Rick A. Meitzen, Sr. of Granite Shoals, peacefully slipped into his eternal rest on Sept. 4, 2015. 
 
Rick was 56 years young, born April 5, 1959 in Taylor. He is the son of John and Lorine Meitzen of Cuero. Rick graduated from Round Rock High in 1977. He and his wife owned and operated Meitzen Landscape and Design in the Austin area for many years.

Julia Sanchez

Julia Perez Sanchez, 86, of Cuero passed away Friday, September 4, 2015. She was born December 9, 1928 in Concrete to the late Candido Perez and Pomposa Vergara Perez. In 1946 Julia married the love of her life, Christobal M. Sanchez. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was also a member of Good Sheppard Church. 
 
She is survived by her daughters, Irene Romero of Cuero, Patsy Duarte of Waco, Manuela Romos; son, Guadalupe Sanchez of Decoma, Washington; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; two sisters; and seven brothers.
