Frances Gilbreth

Frances Ruth (Wilson) Gilbreth passed away peacefully on Nov. 19, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas after a sudden and brief illness. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher who lived her life with amazing grace, love, and laughter. 

She was a 5th generation Texan born on May 7, 1936 to Elbert (Bill) and Olga (Detraz) Wilson in Port Arthur, Texas. She spent her youth in Port Arthur and enjoyed playing the piano, reading any book she could find, and trips to the beach. She was a 1953 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. She obtained her college degrees from Southwest Texas Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and earned her Masters of Education Degree in 1959.

Willie Tamez

Willie Tamez, 54, of Cuero went home to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. He was born on April 13, 1962 in Yorktown to Domingo and Eva Tamez. Willie was an extremely hard working man who liked to spend his time outdoors working with his hands. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, slow cooking barbecue and making people smile. Willie was a loving father, grandfather and friend to many.

He was survived by his mother Eva Tamez; his nine children, Michelle Hayes, Gabriel Hooper, Kathrine Mitchell, William Tamez, Eva Luna, Anna Salles, Julie Tamez, Erika Tamez, Little Tamez; 16 grandchildren; sisters Lupe Manjaras and Janey Tamez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Domingo Tamez; son, Domingo Cruz Tamez; and brother Frank Tamez.

Mildred Noster

Mildred Carson Noster, 90, of Yorktown, passed away Tuesday November 15, 2016.  She was born April 30, 1926 in Colchester, IL to the late Gaylen and Ruth Martin Carson.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Hoefling; and son, James Noster, both of Yorktown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother, Gene (Joyce) Carson of Arneckeville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry O. Noster; brothers, Sherrod and Carroll Carson; and son-in-law, David “Skipper” Hoefling.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Hoefling, Michael Noster, Kevin Styra, Mitchell Saunders, Gerald Saunders and Brian Carson.  Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mary Anne Snapp Becker

Mary Anne Snapp Becker was born on a beautiful summer day, Aug. 9, 1951 in Cuero, Texas, the sixth child of Bill and Margaret Snapp. She had a sparkling personality and was always ready for a fun adventure with her numerous nieces and nephews or pulling a prank on one of her siblings. She passed away on Nov. 12, 2016 with her family by her side.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Becker of Humble, Texas, Emma Sue her cherished dog; siblings Margaret Dixon, Cuero; Susan (Randy) Shepler, Goliad; Bill (Janice) Snapp, Columbia, Mississippi; Jo Anne (Robert) Crain, Houston and Jack Snapp, San Antonio. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Ava (Mal)Hermes; Bubba Dixon; Dee (Donnie) Ayers; John (Liz) Dixon; Kyle (Nikki) Dincans; Cindy (Scott) Favre; Ray (Erika) Snapp; Kelly (John) Cavazos; Courtney (Steven) Egan; Josie Crain; Sarah (Chris) Snyder and 22 great nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents and niece, Katie Snapp.

Mike Jackson

Michael “Mike” Edwin Jackson, 64, of Cuero passed away Monday, Nov. 14, 2016. He was born June 8, 1952 in Corpus Christi to Paul and Carra Lee Jackson, Jr. He worked as a Mechanic and supervised the family ranch. Mike was a beloved son and brother who will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his mother, Carra Lee Jackson; sister Serena Thamm (Stephen); brother Mark Jackson (Marie) all of Cuero; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Jackson, Jr.; wife, Nancy Jackson; and step- daughter Christi Jackson.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Arneckeville.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Clara Beem

Clara Lee Powers Beem went to be with the Lord on Nov. 10, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 27, 1944 in Refugio, Texas to the late Noah Lee and Lena Page Powers.

In her early years the family travelled extensively living in California, Colorado, and Texas. She loved and raised various animals, hunted and fished, and remained an avid fan of ‘true’ country music and classic westerns. Clara Lee enjoyed cooking and baking, and being creative occupied her time drawing, painting, sewing, and soap-making.

Don Cook

Don Selman Cook, 72, of Brazos Country, Texas died at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016.

Don was born March 14, 1944 in Corpus Christi to Dorothy Harris Cook and Enoch H. Cook. He grew up along with three siblings--Sue, Jack, and Jan--and attended school in McAllen, Texas from first grade through high school. He was in the honor society and graduated from McAllen High School in 1962. While there he played three sports: football, basketball, and baseball.

He attended Victoria College and then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Accounting in 1967. While there, he also completed the coursework for a Master’s in Professional Accounting. While at college, he met and married Rosemary Fife in 1968. Later on they would have two children--Gregory and Marion.

Gloria Eckel

Gloria Ruschhaupt Eckel, 81, of Goliad passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016. She was born July 25, 1935 in Meyersville to the late Marcus and Florine Hasdorff Ruschhaupt. Gloria married Gary D. Eckel on Aug. 22, 1959 in Cuero.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Kathi Moreno (Jessie) of Victoria; grandchildren Khristina Knebel of Cuero and Ashley Moreno of Austin; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and her loving family of dogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Gary; brother Gordon Ruschhaupt and sister, Marlene DiGiantomasso.

Visitation will be held Monday, Nov. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Sharon Wiggins officiating. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Dylan Knebel, Kamren Knebel, Michael Ruschhaupt, Kenneth Knebel, Brandon Knebel, Jonathan Knebel and Jeff Forester.

Cassandra E. Hopkins-Whiten

Cassandra E. Hopkins–Whiten was born in Cuero to Elizabeth Odom and the late Micah Hopkins. She was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 10, 2016.

She was a member of Mt. Bethany Baptist Church in Thomaston.

She is survived by her Mother Elizabeth Odom of San Antonio, daughter Truquwelya Williams of San Antonio, sons Wesley Whiten Jr. and Walter Whiten, both of Cuero and daughter Cshawndra Whiten of Cuero. Also survived by her brother Glenn Love of San Antonio, sisters Christshawna Williams of San Antonio and Tonya Hopkins and Tesa Hopkins of Houston, Felicia Brown of San Antonio and Gwenn Love of San Antonio, Stepmom Carol Yates-Hopkins of Houston and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her father Micah Hopkins, Grandmothers Mable Polk and Fannie Blackwell, as well as Grandfathers August Odom and Joel Love and Uncles.

Ruby Thigpen

Ruby N. Thigpen, 84, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016. She was born Dec. 11, 1931 in Cuero to Ned and Viola Thigpen. Ruby had a deep love for all animals and worked to rescue, spay/neuter those that were lucky enough to cross her path.

She is survived by her brother, Walter Ray Thigpen of Mission Valley, Vernon Thomas Thigpen of Port Lavaca, and Douglas Conrad Thigpen of Cuero; sisters, Geraldine Thigpen Spears of Cuero, Doris Thigpen White of Cuero, Loyce Thigpen Sikes of Woodsboro and Deborah Jean Thigpen of Victoria; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ned Thigpen and Viola Simon Thigpen; and brother, Ned Thigpen, Jr.

Visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Pastor Donna L. Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
