Bernard Hajovsky Jr.

Bernard “Bernie” Hajovsky, Jr., 63, of Cuero passed away on Feb. 16, 2016.  He was born on April 17, 1952 in Shiner as the second of seven children to Bernard and Loretta Hajovsky of Gonzales.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Jean Novak Hajovsky; his children Bridgette Lynette Cerny (Matthew), Brandy Jean Williams (Justin), Bernie Joe Hajovsky (Jordan), Blake Bernard Hajovsky (Ashley), and Bryan Bernard Hajovsky, OFM Conv; and his grandchildren Brooke Marie Cerny, Kristin Elizabeth Cerny, Sabine Anna Marie Williams, Harris Kristek Hajovsky, Jackson Dominic Hajovsky, Rylie Claire Hajovsky, Molly Catherine Hajovsky, and Colton Luke Hajovsky, all who affectionately called him “Pappy.”  He is also survived by his siblings Elaine Brzozowski, David Hajovsky, Jeanette Collins, Judy Ealand, Lori Thomas, and Bonnie Barton.

Jacqueline Ponder

Jacqueline LaTurno Ponder, 86, of Yorktown and Pflugerville passed away peacefully with family at her side, on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, in Round Rock. 

Jackie was born June 17, 1929 in Festus, Missouri to William K. LaTurno and Alice Naomi (Vinyard) LaTurno. Following her 1947 graduation from Festus High School, she trained at Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri and became a Registered Nurse. Jackie moved to Houston to further her nursing career, working at the then new Methodist Hospital. She later worked at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, and was proud to have had the opportunity to work in medical research with Drs. Michael DeBakey and Denton Cooley to develop an artificial heart.

George Edward Balcar

George Edward Balcar, 78, of Yorktown, passed away Thursday Feb. 11, 2016. He was born Sept. 20, 1937 in Dimebox to the late John and Mary Elsik Balcar. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He married Audrey Deanna Schroeter at St. Paul Lutheran Church on March 26, 1960.

He graduated from high school in Dime Box, attended Blinn Junior College and graduated from Southwest Texas State University. He worked at Armco Steel in Houston and was a teacher at Cuero Junior High and rancher.

He is survived by his wife Audrey of Yorktown, sons Glen Marshall (Carol) Balcar of Dime Box, and Morgan Wade (Sandy) Balcar of Spring Barnch, and two grandchildren Brittany Balcar and Leah (Luke) Black.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rose Marie Brinkman and brother Johnny Balcar.

Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15 at Massey Funeral Home.

Memorials can be given to Yorktown EMS, Yorktown Fire Department or St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Cynthia Thompson

Cynthia A. Thompson entered into rest on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016 at the age of 57. She was born on April 10, 1958 to Tommy and Vivian Gardner Thomas in Cuero. She attended First United Methodist Church in Cuero.
 
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Bobby Thompson; her brothers, Jerald Thomas, Ervin Thomas, and Marlin Thomas; her sisters Yvonne Gardner-Strait, Gwen Monroe, Tommie Williams, and Angela Dowell.
 
She is preceded in death by her brother, Ernest (E.J.) Thomas.

Bob Wagner

Walter Robert “Bob” Wagner, 85, of Cuero passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016. He was born Dec. 1, 1930 in Cuero to the late Walter Petty and Faye Lucille Hisey Wagner. Bob married the love of his life, Billie Jo Leggett on Dec. 30, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Cuero. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1958 and graduated with his Business Degree from the University of Texas in 1957. Bob served on Cuero City Council and was Police Commissioner from 1960-1964. He owned and operated Wagner Hardware from 1957 to 1989.
 
Bob enjoyed woodworking with mesquite; making beautiful crosses and furniture. He loved creating jewelry from stainless bolts and mesquite for his children and grandchildren. Bob treasured the time spent in Port O'Connor and Matagorda Island, beachcombing and fishing with his family. He was an avid storyteller and enjoyed sharing special memories with family and friends.

Ruth Hargrove

Ruth Lenore Hargrove, 94, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016. She was born Feb. 19, 1921 to Vernon and Myrtle Bellamy.
 
Ruth married Aubrey E. Hargrove on April 26, 1940 in Denver, Colorado. They moved to Lyford, Texas in 1947, and she lived there until moving to Cuero in 2000.
 
She is survived by daughters, Sharon (Roy) Klaty of Hillsboro, Indiana and Connie Beck of Cuero; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aubrey E. Hargrove; son, Gary Ray Hargrove; grandson, Nathan Aubrey Hargrove; three sisters and four brothers.
 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. with Services to follow at 11 a.m. at Freund Funeral Home with Mr. Lyle Schober, officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. at Mont Meta Cemetery in San Benito.

Inez Marie Hahn

Inez Marie Hahn, age 82, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 10, 2016. During 10 years of cancer, Inez gracefully embraced her cross to bear, until the good Lord called her home. Inez told her family, “I am at peace with God and know I am going to Heaven.” She was a devoted wife, beloved mother and friend to many. We will all remember her deep faith, positive attitude, friendly personality, and sincere helping hand and unfailing generosity to others.

Ralph Rabke

Ralph Rabke, 70, of Weesatche, passed away Wednesday Feb. 3, 2016.  He was born Sept. 2, 1945 in Cuero, to the late Raymond and Christina Heil Rabke. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Weesatche.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Linda Oehlke Rabke of Weesatche, daughter Andra Clark and husband Duane of Cedar Park, son Russell Rabke and wife Tiffany, granddaughter Clara Rabke of Corpus Christi, brother Thomas Rabke, step-sisters Verlene Weise, Beverly Feller and Athalee Koehler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Wilfred Jacob, brother O’dell Rabke and sister Delores Wishert.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday Feb. 13 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Weesatche.

Wayne Allen Sievers

Wayne Allen Sievers, 61, of Dobskyville, passed away Monday Feb. 8, 2016. He was born Feb. 12, 1954 in Cuero to the late Weldon and Deloris Caruthers Sievers.

He is survived by his sister Jeanette Laza of Victoria, brother Donald (Vera) Sievers of Golaid, nieces and nephews Amber (Wade) Watkins, Katie (Patrick) Manzi, Donald (Katy) Sievers Jr and Matthew Sievers. Great nieces Lauren Watkins and Katelyn Sievers and great nephew Jimmy Sievers.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday Feb. 11 at Massey Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday Feb. 12 at Massey Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Westside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wade Watkins, Donald Sievers Jr. Matthew Sievers, George Dueser, Carl Dueser and Doug Vogel.

Memorials can be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Theresa Bowles

Theresa Ruth Stratmann Bowles was called home by our heavenly Father surrounded by her loved ones Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at age 66 at the Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. She was born June 20, 1949, to the late Edgar and Sonja Stratmann of Yorktown.
