Brett Hoffmann

Brett Alexander Hoffmann, 45, of Corpus Christi passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016. He was born March 31, 1970 in Corpus Christi to Fred and Rebecca Hoffmann. Brett served in the United States Marine Corps during Desert Storm. He was an expert marksman who loved hunting, fishing and being outdoors. Brett also had a passion for music from the time he was a small boy.

He is survived by his father Fred Hoffmann, daughter Rebecca Ann Hoffmann and brother Geoffrey Hoffmann.

He was preceded in death by his mother Rebecca Thompson Hoffmann.

Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 25 at 12 p.m., with services following at 2 p.m. at Freund Funeral Home. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Geoffrey Hoffmann, Glenn Lewis, Phillip Lara, Darren Carrol, Damion Carrol and Terry Schade.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Donor's choice.

Elroy Porter

Services for Elroy “Tutum” Porter were held Saturday, Dec. 5 at Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Cuero, Texas. Mr. Porter died Dec. 3, 2015 at the age of 95.

Born on Oct. 21, 1921 in DeWitt County, he was the son of Walter and Erma Porter.

He spent his early developmental years in Cuero. At an early age, Elroy gave his life to Christ uniting with the Brother Chapel Church in Cuero. Worshipping and performing the works of the Lord until he united with Mount Bethel Baptist Church in 1998.

Braxton Kidd

Braxton Roy “BR” Kidd, 85, of Luling, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. He was born Jan. 13, 1931 in Leesville to Lem Bur Kidd and Elester Pearl Whiddon Kidd. BR married Sytha Hotz on July 13, 1949 in Gonzales and together they hauled a load of cattle to Oklahoma for their honeymoon promptly after the wedding. BR was a member of the American Legion Post 177 and the Luling Cowboy Bible Church. 
 
BR grew up in Leesville, attended school in Leesville and then started working on the family farm to help support his family.

Esteban Navarro

Esteban “Steve” C. Navarro, 88, of Dallas, formerly of Cuero and Port Lavaca, passed away Friday, Jan. 15. He was born Nov. 28, 1927 to the late Delfino and Maria Chavez Navarro. Steve joined the military in 1952, serving in the US Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. He married the love of his life, Dahlia O. Saenz, on May 7, 1967 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Cuero. Steve retired from TXDOT after 23 years of service. He was also a member of Our Lady of The Gulf Catholic Church in Port Lavaca, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Knights of Columbus.
 
He is survived by daughters, Rita Reis and husband, Bob, and Mary Navarro, all of Dallas; sisters, Elvira Dimas of San Antonio, Oralia Navarro of Cuero, and Guadalupe Morales of Oklahoma; and grandson, Nathan Reis of Dallas.

Ethel Barth

Ethel Arlene Rummel Barth, 98, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016. She was born Nov. 11, 1917 in Kenedy to the late Gus and Viola Donnel Rummel. She married Finley Barth in 1936. She was a housewife and waitress at Barth's Restaurant in Kenedy for many years. She was a devoted mother and enjoyed the times when she could be with her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included baking and decorating wedding cakes, painting, quilting, knitting and crafts. She was a Baptist.
 
She is survived by daughters, Mary Lou Cole and Doris Ann Cummings; sons, Finley Barth, Jr. and Cecil Barth; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Finley Barth; sisters, Dearer Rummel, Dorothy Bingham, and Beulah Pantallion; and brothers, D.C. Rummel and Clifton Rummel.

Verda Williams

Verda Clara Van Williams, 82, of Belton, passed away on Jan. 10, 2016. She was born on June 28, 1933, to Roy and Helen Huebner Wagner in Yorktown.
 
Verda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Hickman; brother, Eldred B “Sonny” Wagner; and great-granddaughter, Emily Renee Ward.
 
She is survived by daughters, Roxane McWha of Belton and Cynthia Latimer of Corpus Christi; son, Wayne Dunbar of Corpus Christi; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews.

Bobby Guenther

Bobby Wayne Guenther, 62, of Cuero passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016. He was born June 24, 1953 in Cuero to the late Henry L. and Nettie Inez Edgar Guenther. Bobby married the love of his life, Dianne Cessor, on July 17, 1974 in Cuero. He was a Cuero High School graduate and a State Final Gobbler fullback from 1970-1972. Bobby was a butcher at Smolik's Barbecue for many years. He loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
 
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dianne Guenther; daughter, Crystal Lynn Guenther Webb and husband, Sean, of Cuero; sisters, Dorthy Caraway and husband, Ray, of Port Lavaca and Kathy Raven and husband, Bobby, of Bloomington; brother, Billy Joe Guenther and Peggy, of Schroeder; grandchildren, Emily Nicole Webb of Victoria and Ethan Tyler Webb of Cuero; and multiple nieces and nephews that were thought of as his own.

Andres Garza

Andres Garza, 87, of Nordheim, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016. He was born Feb. 17, 1928 in Nordheim. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.

He is survived by his sisters Lydia Bryand, Armenia Salazar and brother Domingo Villarreal, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Jesusa V. Erebia, brothers Santiago, Delfino and Luis Erebia and sister Maria Castillo.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12 with rosary starting at 7 p.m. in the Massey Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m., Wednesday Jan. 13 at Holy Cross Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Randy Castillo, Jeremy Castillo, Nick Garza, Brian Garza, Patrick Garza and Matthew Bryand.  Honorary pallbearers will be Luis Bryand, Justo Bryand, Paul Bryand, Ruben Bryand, Lupe Castillo, John Garza and Richard Garza.

Russell Lee

Roderick Russell Lee was born in Cuero and left his earthy life Dec. 4, 2015. He is survived by his wife Nancy, of Costa Rica; his mother Lorene Lee, of Cuero; and brothers James E Gardner (Debbie), and Richard Harrison Wheeler of San Antonio; one niece, two nephews and one great nephew.
 
Russell graduated from Cuero High School in 1994, where he played football for the Cuero Gobblers. In 1998, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and he served our nation admirably. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force, he served six years in the Texas National Guard, another part of his service to his country.
 
Russell attended ITT Technical Institution where he earned an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering and was employed by Halliburton for years as a Computer Tech.

Leon A. Polzin

Leon A. Polzin, 93, of Victoria died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 in Victoria.  He was born in Yoakum Oct. 16, 1922, to Edmund John and Katie Mae Polzin. Leon married Mary Greene Hobson July 5, 1944 in Victoria, and made their home and business in Cuero.
 
He graduated from Yoakum High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a private stationed in the South Pacific (Tinian Island – Army Specialized Training) during World War II. He was a skilled craftsman and carpenter and was the owner of Polzin’s Incorporated in Cuero for 40 years.
 
Leon was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and past-president of the Cuero Lions Club. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuero. He took great pride in his service to his country, his civic service to his community, and great comfort from his faith.
