GOD first...Heavenly Father, many of us have priorities in things we try to accomplish. Lots of times those priorities get altered because of incidents that come into our lives. Help us to realize that when things don't go our way, we know that we are being tested or plans for us are altered because most of the time You are in control and things we want aren't in the plans You have for us. Lord, Help us to put our trust in things to come as we pray in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for those who are ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harms' way. **Teacher: What great event happened in 1809?
James: Abraham Lincoln was born.
Teacher: Correct. And what great event happened in 1812?
James: Abraham Lincoln had his third birthday.
Teacher: William, please complete this sentence...'If at first you don't succeed....'
William: 'Forget the whole thing and go fishing.'
I kinda felt like that this week but fishing wasn't quite the thing I really wanted to do. I would have preferred to go to a nice warm place south of the equator and enjoy some nice sunshine.
Getting out of bed at 5 a.m. with 24 degrees on the wall indicating the temp. outside, I put on an extra coat thinking I can weather this cold wind outside, and the moment I opened the door outside, I thought to myself, 'Myself, are you crazy?' Even my dog Lola, looked at me sorta asking that too. So we went to the Parish Hall and I made a pot of coffee for Koffee Klatch wondering how many would show up. After taking some time to arrange everything and moving tables, I went back home and waited until 8 o'clock, overslept about 20 minutes and went back to the parish Hall and still nobody. Alma Jean came shortly and said she came by earlier and nobody was parked outside so she thought it was canceled. She made another pass later and saw my car and came in with a pan of delicious cake. A little while later, Cathy came and we had Koffee Klatch together. All the wusses stayed home except Larry who was teaching Ag. at school as assistant to the Ag. Teacher. She was at the San Antonio Stock Show. Alma quit drinking coffee and Cathy only drinks Dr. Pepper, and I had to drink coffee by myself. The coffee was the best I ever made. It tasted so good. I know I'm going to hear a lot of excuses as to why they couldn't make it, but having sympathy and caring, they did have good judgement by staying home as I wish I could have done. LOYALTY TO THE CAUSE is still my own motto.
The Nordheim Boys Basketball Team put up an almighty fight against Dime Box at Schulenburg High School but with our young team, they missed going for third place. So now they will be going to work on Cross Country events and track. A lot of Nordheimers followed the team to Schulenburg to boost our team and they all came back home with nothing but praise as their Nordheim Team needed just a little more umph to beat a good team.
Richard and Jeanie Heard, along with others that I didn't get the names of, were great hosts to the Monday Night (formerly at the Broadway Bar) Supper last Monday night with more than 40 people in attendance. The menu consisted of chili & beans with a variety of cornbread, along with a lot of desserts. Saw a lot of new people and some of the steady participants of many of the former groups. The Hosts did an excellent job even though it was blowing wind outside (over 24mph). Folks in and around Nordheim will now have a great place to go on the third Monday of the month when the next group of hosts will be having their turn at sponsoring the meal.
Progress of Highway 72 widening to 4 lanes has been slow at times, the contractors have been doing their best to finish and reports are flying around that they hoped that by now it would be finished. But rain and weather have delayed some activity but in all fairness, they have been steady at work whenever they could. All it takes is some good sunshine and nice weather which will soon be here. To those who are impatient, the wide new road is a joy to drive on and we all are looking forward to its completion. See you next week, even if h__l freezes over.
