The Yorktown Kitty Kats and Wildcats saw their basketball seasons come to an end, as the Kitty Kats fell in the bi-district round to Agua Dulce, while the Wildcats wrapped up district play with a home loss to Three Rivers.

In a thrilling bi-district showdown on Feb. 10, the Kitty Kats took the court in George West to face the Agua Dulce Lady Horns, champions of District 32-2A. The first quarter played out like a heavyweight bout, with both teams feeling each other out. Agua Dulce held a narrow 12-10 edge after one.

Yorktown’s defense turned up the heat in the second quarter, shutting out the Lady Horns and surging ahead 19-12 at halftime. However, the momentum shifted after the break, as Agua Dulce stormed back with a 16-7 third quarter to reclaim the lead at 28-26.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle, but Agua Dulce managed to hold on for a nail-biting 36-34 victory, ending Yorktown’s playoff hopes. Freshman Palyn Koopmann led the charge for the Kitty Kats with 17 points. Seniors Nina Villarreal and Laynie Boyd contributed five points apiece, with Boyd also grabbing 11 rebounds. Fellow senior Sydnie Krueger dominated the boards with 13 rebounds.

Despite the tough loss, the Kitty Kats capped off a successful season with a 20-14 record— an impressive improvement from the previous year.

On Feb. 11, the Wildcats hosted the Three Rivers Bulldogs in their season finale. The Bulldogs wasted no time making an early statement, jumping out to a 7-0 lead and taking a 17-9 advantage after the first quarter.

Yorktown clawed back in the second, outscoring Three Rivers 11-9 to trim the deficit to 26-20 at halftime. However, offense came at a premium in the second half, as both teams struggled to find their rhythm. Three Rivers edged Yorktown 19-14 after the break, securing a 45-34 win.

Junior Ryan Knostman led the Wildcats with eight points and five rebounds, while his younger brother, sophomore Brayden Knostman, matched his scoring output while adding five steals. The Wildcats wrapped up the season with an 8-15 record— an encouraging turnaround from last year’s two-win campaign.

Both teams showed resilience and growth throughout the season, setting the stage for even bigger strides next year.
