Have you ever thought about how many people you place your trust in and not have a clue who they are? Have you ever stopped to think about material items you put your faith in and do not know how safe they are? Most of us do this every day.
I once read a story about a man, an atheist, who was traveling by airplane across the country. He was sitting next to a young girl who was using crayons for pictures in a coloring book. Being young and not shy about talking, the girl struck up a conversation with the man without stopping what she was doing. It was a very pleasant talk they were having when suddenly the airplane entered a thunderstorm.
The plane was being tossed around by the wind and the lightning flashes were very evident through the windows. The ride became rough for a little while and the man became uneasy about the situation. The young girl never showed any anxiety and continued with her coloring.
The man looked over at the young girl and said, “Are you not scared of the thunderstorm?” She said, “No. Why should I be?”
“My father is the pilot and he will keep the airplane and me safe.”
What faith this young lady had in her earthly father. She trusted him completely to take care of her.
The same is true for us that know Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. Our trust is in Him and we know that He will watch over us. He also gives us enough wisdom to know when we can trust the vehicles we drive, fly in, ride on, or be a part of. We put trust in our Lord to keep us safe even though we know nothing about the machines that we will be a part of. Man made vehicles, planes, trains, and any other type moving objects can break down and they do.
We put a blind trust in objects that we know nothing about however, if our trust is in our Father in Heaven, we know where we will go even if earthly objects let us down.
I love the old hymn ‘Trust and Obey.’ Read the words to the first verse and let them soak into your memory so you can recall them each day. “When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way; while we do His good will, He abides with us still, and with all who will trust and obey. Trust and obey, for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”
Just as the ones that fly on airplanes, ride in cars, etc., we put our trust in the makers of these vehicles to get us where we are going. Even during stormy times, we still trust these man-made machines but what we really need to trust in is our Heavenly Father to take care of us. The young girl traveling beside the atheist man taught him a valuable lesson when she said my daddy is the pilot. Even though she was talking about her earthly father, Christians put their trust in their Heavenly Father to see them through tough times.
What about you? Where is your trust and will you obey when the Lord calls on you?
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for the confidence of knowing you will lead me where I need to go. I pray that I will obey in everything you ask me to do. Amen
