LWV to honor 8 area women

The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will celebrate Women's History Month by honoring exceptional local women at its third annual Women Making History event, which will take place on Sunday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m. at Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson Street, La Grange.

The League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will celebrate Women's History Month by honoring exceptional local women at its third annual Women Making History event, which will take place on Sunday, March 9, at 3:00 p.m. at Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson Street, La Grange.

Eight outstanding women were selected from dozens of community nominations to receive recognition in categories including courage, determination, heroism, heritage, initiative, steadfastness, and vision. The selection committee noted that all nominees demonstrated remarkable contributions to the South Central Texas community.

The celebration will also feature presentations from three area high school students, who will share their award-winning essays and poetry about inuential women from Texas history. These presentations are part of the League's second annual Student Writing Showcase, which aims to inspire young people to explore women's contributions to our South Central Texas community.
