On March 1, Yorktown came alive with vibrant colors and lively celebrations as it hosted its inaugural Mardi Gras, hosted by Dwayne and Susan Belaire of D’zo Mercantile. The festivities kicked off with an exhilarating Mardi Gras ATV Parade at 10 a.m., where splendidly decorated vehicles paraded through the streets, _lling the air with excitement and anticipation.
A bustling crowd eagerly lined up to savor the creations, resulting in nearly 200 bowls of gumbo and 100 bowls of potato salad being sold, showcasing the community's passion for good food.
The gumbo winners are 1st place Gumbo D.R.E. Couyon Cajun by Derek Echkardt, 2nd place Gumbo Texas Bred Cookers by Gregg Muller, and 3rd place Gumbo on Time BBQ by AJ Flores. The potato salad winners are 1st place Potato Salad Kat’s Kookin by Kathryn Hamilton, 2nd place Potato Salad Axis Energy by Ray Strieber, and 3rd place Potato Salad AJ Flores. After the culinary festivities, participants enjoyed a spirited chicken run that added to the day's lively atmosphere. As the sun set, the community gathered at Yorktown City Park to dance the night away to the music of Hunter Courville & Cajun Fever.
