Hello All, It’s been a few weeks since my last message. I came down with a case of the flu, which took a week to get over. Please take proper precautions because the Flu, COVID and Upper respiratory virus is currently making its rounds.

On Feb 11th, a delegation of 25 Cueroites comprised of Council members, Chamber of Commerce members, Cuero Development Corporation members and invited citizens were greeted by Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Texas Representative AJ Louderback at the Texas State Capitol, both representing the Dewitt County area. Senator Kolkhorst recognized the Cuero delegation from the Senate floor and Rep. Louderback read a House Resolution recognizing the City of Cuero and Dewitt County on the House of Representatives floor.

Feb. 15th gave way to a celebration banquet for Coach Victor Mathis. Coach Mathis coached many students at Cuero schools throughout his coaching career, truly a remarkable man and role model for future generations. “Thank you Sir.”

The first of many planning meetings for the upcoming Hometown Harvest dinner on Main Street was held on Feb. 19. Please make plans to attend an awesome evening of food and entertainment; more details to follow.

A large Historical Marker plaque was dedicated for and at the Old English German school on the grounds of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum on Feb 25th. Please go by and see the beautiful restoration work done on the site. Cuero should be proud of this historical building.

Feb 27th, provided for a well-attended community pep rally on downtown Main Street for the Cuero High School Lady Gobblers, who made history by playing in the 4A Girls Basketball Championship Finals game in San Antonio’s Alamodome on Feb 28th. Although the game did not come out in Cuero’s favor, the Lady Gobblers and the City of Cuero should be proud of the young ladies. Also on Friday Feb 28, myself and Council members Glover and Mathys attended the Region 11 Texas Municipal League’s quarterly meeting in Edna where current legislative updates were the main topic of the meeting.

Saturday morning, March 1, was extremely busy in the Cuero park area: a tree planting event, opening ceremonies for this season’s Cuero Little league baseball and opening ceremonies for the 76th Cuero Livestock show took place.

Friday, March 7th Council members took a tour and conducted a special meeting at the Texas Disposal Systems (TDS), Creedmore plant/meeting room. TDS provides Cuero’s garbage pick up service.

Two businesses in Cuero I would like to highlight are the Jailbreak Café on F.M. 766 and EVthing across from K&N. Both are Family oriented and host many events with the family in mind. Please visit them. More to follow!!
