Cameron Willis led the way for the Wildcats’ last tournament, however Kolton Eckhardt spearheaded the win for the Wildcats this week. In a field of 59 golfers, Eckhardt’s personal record (77) was nudged out of first place by a single stroke. His performance was vital in propelling the Wildcats to tie for first place as a team against Cuero, while it was Colton Rogers who solidified the win.
There were nine teams in the Cuero Invitational. Woodsboro, St. Paul, Yoakum, Karnes City, Runge, Edna, Columbus and three Cuero teams were entered.
The Wildcat team, consisting of Willis, Eckhardt, Connor Saunders, Brody Metting, and Rogers, shot a combined 329. Eckhardt (77), Willis (81), Saunders (84), Metting (87) were tallied in the team total and Rogers (92) was used as a tiebreaker awarding Yorktown with gold.
The girls team finished seventh place overall out of 11 teams. Participating in the girls tournament on March 4 was Woodsboro, Shiner varsity and junior varsity, St. Paul varsity and junior varsity, Cuero varsity and junior varsity, Kenedy, Edna, and Columbus. The Kitty Kat team shot a total 473 and consisted of golfers Sydnie Krueger (121), Braleigh Dodds (120), Lila Buch (112), Ashlie Gaida (128), and McKinley Rogers (120). Evelyn Merks was entered as an individual and shot 115.
