In late February, an elderly Cuero Resident was contacted and told that one of her financial accounts was compromised. The scammers told the victim that they would have to make a deposit to cover the financial loss. They then made arrangements with the victim for a courier to pick up a large sum of money from their address. A courier arrived and the victim gave them a large amount of money in cash. The suspect (Asian male) was captured on video surveillance.
Through information obtained from another law enforcement agency, the suspect was identified as Chaopeng Huang of San Lorenzo, California. Haung was also arrested in New Braunfels on March 7th committing the same offence. The victim in the New Braunfels case called the police who were waiting for Huang to arrive.
Charges are pending on Huang.
Contact your local law enforcement, either the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office, or the Cuero Police Department, if you are contacted by someone, previously unknown, who pressures you to pay large amounts of money.
