Council received an update on the upcoming Fun After 5 event to be held on March 20 at 5:30 p.m., which will feature the Indianola exhibit.

Sunday Afternoon Kaffeeklatsch
If you are a fan of Texas history and especially De-Witt County history, you are invited to a special event celebrating a new book about the people and places of this county in the late 1800’s. DeWitt County Historical Commission is celebrating its new book “History of DeWitt County 1899,” Sunday, March 23, from 2-4 p.m. at the English German School, located at 205 N. Terrell on the Chisholm Trail Museum property. The Sunday Afternoon Kaffeeklatsch will feature German wine tasting and special guest Dr. James Kearney, translator for the book.
Jars of Love
Coming by Main Street? Pack some peanut butter for the Jars of Love donation barrel at The Cuero Record. Through March 25, a Jars of Love peanut butter donation barrel is located at 119 E. Main Street. Peanut butter is one of the most requested items by food pantries due to its nutritional value, long shelf life and affordability. The donation helps those served by the Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, including Cuero’s CAMAL House. Donations are also accepted online on the website at https://www.tfbgc. org/jarsoflove
Local Scholarships
DeWitt County Farm Bureau will be awarding scholarships to qualified 2025 graduating seniors in DeWitt County. These scholarships are only for DeWitt County residents. Applicants from Yoakum High School, Cuero High School, Yorktown High School, Nordheim High School as well as an approved home school program are eligible, provided they are the son or daughter of a DeWitt County Farm Bureau member with a current membership. Applicants must be enrolling in a college, university or a vocational school in the fall semester following graduation. Contact your high school counselor for assistance with the application form and other requirements. Submit the materials to the DeWitt County Farm Bureau, P. O. Box 271, Cuero, Texas 77954, or drop off before deadline at 312 E. Main Street, Cuero, Texas 77954. The submission deadline is March 28. Yorktown Elementary School Reunion
YES Class of 1995 plans are underway for our 30 year class reunion on Saturday, March 29 at Vietnam veteran center (old American Legion Hall) 901 Hwy 72 E beginning at 3 pm. Shrimp Dinner
Cuero Knights of Columbus Council #1682 will be hosting its Annual Shrimp Dinner on Sunday, April 6, from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Hall in Cuero. The meal will include Fried Shrimp, Rice, Cole Slaw, and Hushpuppies. Plates are “to go” only. Advance tickets for $12.00 are available at the St. Michael’s Catholic Church office, or from any Knights of Columbus member. Cost at the door is also $12.00. The shrimp dinner fundraising event is held to help build funds for the Cuero Knights of Columbus scholarship program and special projects for St. Michael’s Catholic Church and School. Freemasons Offer Scholarships
Yorktown and Nordheim 2025 graduating seniors planning to attend technical school or college are invited to apply for a scholarship from Yorktown’s Cameron Masonic Lodge. Education is a key factor in the future success of not only our community but the country as a whole. The Freemasons are pleased to be able to offer further educational assistance through the scholarship program. The deadline for applying is noon April 8th. Substitutes, Cafeteria, & Bus Drivers
The Cuero ISD will hold its substitute training on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. in the Cuero ISD Administration Office located at 960 East Broadway, Cuero. This training will provide individuals wishing to work in the classroom, cafeteria, or driving a bus with information necessary for success while substituting in the district. This also includes state mandated trainings for Safety and Security and Stop the Bleed Training
Yorktown Spring Clean Up
Monday through Friday, April 7-11. Please have all items at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday April 7. Brush bundles are required to be no more than 4 feet in length and tied together with either string or twine and weigh no more than 35 pounds. Pieces of lumber/ wood are also required to be no more than 4 feet in length. TDA cannot take items like tires, construction materials, hazardous material or stones/bricks.
Wieland Reunion
The descendants of Friedrick and Wilhemine Wieland will have their family reunion on Saturday, April 12, at the Yorktown Fire Station, beginning at 11 a.m. It has been awhile since we have seen each other. Please come, we want to see you! The main dish, drinks and paper goods will be provided. Family members may bring their favorite side dish and dessert. Fish Fry Fundraiser
Yorktown’s Cameron Masonic Lodge will have a Fish Fry Fundraiser on Friday, April 18th from 3:30 to 6 p.m. with $14 plates to go only. The Masons are partnering with Werners out of Shiner to provide plates consisting of fried fish, french fries, hush puppies and slaw. Plates will be available at the Masonic Lodge located at 525 E Main. Ag Business Luncheon The Cuero Chamber of Commerce Agriculture & Visitor’s Bureau will host its annual Ag Business Luncheon on Wednesday, April 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Anne Friar Thomas Building, 501 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Cuero. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Jeffrey W. Savell, Vice Chancellor and Dean of Texas A&M Agrilife College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Indianola Exhibit
The Cuero Heritage Museum proudly presents “Honoring Our Mother: Indianola in Color,” an immersive exhibit running from February 1 to June 1, 2025, at 124 E. Church Street, Cuero, Texas. Featuring colorized historic photographs, artifacts, and a compelling video, the exhibit brings the lost port city of Indianola back to life. The video includes Capt. J. M. Reuss' Civil War letter, the harrowing Sheppard story from the 1886 hurricane, the poem Where is My Home, and A. J. Coutret’s account of the 1875 storm. This exhibit offers a vivid journey through Indianola’s past, showcasing its historical significance and lasting impact on Texas. Library/Crown Hospice Hosts Senior Social Hour

Child Find Evaluations
sure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is provided for children who are identified as needing special education and related services. Child Find is a process to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. Evaluations for Cuero, Meyersville, Nursery and Westhoff ISD’s are available through Child Find. Early childhood intervention programs serve children with developmental delays and their families. Child Screening Services
Residents of Yorktown, are you aware of a child with problems walking, seeing, moving or thinking? Free screening services are available for children from birth through five years of age. Call 361-564-2252 ext. 3002 for an appointment. Screening will be held at Yorktown Elementary School.
