Powerlifters dominate regionals, punch tickets to state

The Yorktown Wildcat powerlifting team made a statement at the Region Powerlifting Meet on March 6-7, with two lifters earning their spots at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene. The Yorktown Wildcat powerlifting team made a statement at the Region Powerlifting Meet on March 6-7, with two lifters earning their spots at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene.

Senior Johnathan Guerrero delivered a record-shattering performance in the 132-pound weight class, claiming second place and a state qualification. Guerrero rewrote the regional record books, setting new marks with a 505-pound squat, 315-pound bench press, and 485-pound deadlift, amassing a staggering 1,305-pound total lift.

Meanwhile, senior Rylan Rau powered his way to a Regional Championship in the 242-pound division, leaving no doubt about his dominance. Rau squatted 575 pounds, set a new Regional Bench Press record at 455 pounds, and crushed a 570-pound deadlift. His 1,600-pound total lift set yet another regional record and secured his place at state.
