The Yorktown Wildcat powerlifting team made a statement at the Region Powerlifting Meet on March 6-7, with two lifters earning their spots at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene.
Senior Johnathan Guerrero delivered a record-shattering performance in the 132-pound weight class, claiming second place and a state qualification. Guerrero rewrote the regional record books, setting new marks with a 505-pound squat, 315-pound bench press, and 485-pound deadlift, amassing a staggering 1,305-pound total lift.
Meanwhile, senior Rylan Rau powered his way to a Regional Championship in the 242-pound division, leaving no doubt about his dominance. Rau squatted 575 pounds, set a new Regional Bench Press record at 455 pounds, and crushed a 570-pound deadlift. His 1,600-pound total lift set yet another regional record and secured his place at state.
Senior Justin Guerrero narrowly missed a state bid but still made waves in the 220-pound class, finishing fourth overall and earning the Best Squatter in the heavyweight division with a jaw-dropping 650-pound squat. He also logged a 330-pound bench press and a 405-pound deadlift, finishing with a 1,385-pound total lift.
Jonathan Guerrero and Rau now set their sights on the State Powerlifting Meet at the Taylor County Expo in Abilene on March 22, where they’ll battle the best in Texas.
The Wildcats have already proven they can break records— now, they’re looking to bring home titles.
