Donation enhances Cuero's healthcare future

The DeWitt Medical Foundation has once again been the fortunate recipient of a remarkable donation. This year, Two Bar, LLP, Frank Klein as general partner, has donated $100,000 to the DeWitt Medical Foundation Gala, significantly bolstering ongoing efforts to enhance our local healthcare services.

The significance of this substantial con- tribution from Two Bar, LLP, Frank Klein as general partner, cannot be overstated. The proceeds from the donation will directly support the relocation and expansion of Cuero Regional Hospital's laboratory and pharmacy departments, representing a major step forward in the hospital’s continuous mission to elevate patient care and operational efficiency.

The hospital's laboratory expansion is crucial, as it will allow Cuero Regional Hospital to offer an expanded range of laboratory tests performed entirely in-house. This capability will greatly improve service efficiency, allowing quicker processing and delivery of test results. The direct benefit to patients is clear: faster diagnosis, more immediate treatments, and improved health outcomes.

Additionally, relocating the pharmacy is a strategic move designed to optimize hospital facilities and improve patient care significantly. The new on-site pharmacy will provide substantial advantages for hospital employees, including better pricing for medications and convenient access to pharmaceutical services. This in-house pharmacy will streamline the prescription process, reduce medication costs, and enhance medication affordability for hospital staff, directly boosting employee well-being and satisfaction.

Furthermore, the strategic relocation and expansion of these departments will notably bolster Cuero Regional Hospital's participation in the 340B program, a federal initiative designed to help hospitals and healthcare providers serving vulnerable communities obtain prescription medications at significantly discounted prices. Established in 1992, this program enables eligible healthcare organizations to stretch limited resources, reduce medication costs, and expand healthcare services to underserved populations. The savings generated by the 340B program will be reinvested into enhancing patient care, funding facility improvements, and supporting other vital community healthcare initiatives, thus generating additional revenue and financial stability for the institution.

Cuero Regional Hospital’s ability to continually enhance its healthcare offerings relies heavily on local philanthropy and community support, exemplified through generous donors like Two Bar, LLP, Frank Klein as general partner. Historically, this philanthropic partnership has resulted in numerous transformative improvements to our community healthcare facilities.

Over the past several decades, the generosity of local donors, including Two Bar, LLP, Frank Klein as general partner, has left a lasting impact. Notable contributions include funding the remodel and advanced equipment for the Cuero Regional Hospital Childbirth Center in 1997, the provision of technologically advanced patient beds in 1999, and equipping the Cuero Wellness Center in 2001. My wife, Cassie, and I welcomed our youngest child, Teddy, in the Childbirth Center in 2022, experiencing firsthand the exceptional quality of care provided, thanks in large part to these community investments.

Other substantial contributions included state-of-the-art surgical suite equipment in 2003, an ICU monitoring system and widespread placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in community spaces in 2005 and establishing the rejuvenation side of the Cuero Wellness Center along with the addition of ergonomic medical equipment in 2007.

Further advancements came with funding for a digital mammography machine and the construction of the Belle Terry Elder Women’s Center from 2009 through 2011. In 2012, the construction of the Hamilton- Wallis Chapel significantly enhanced volunteer services and improved patient experiences with a new hospital entrance.

Recent improvements include constructing and equipping the Bfit Cuero Wellness Center in 2014, remodeling the childbirth center in 2016, supporting numerous nursing career scholarships from 2017 onward, and renovating the emergency department in 2018. Last year’s significant investment assisted the hospital in acquiring the advanced Da-Vinci Surgical Robot, revolutionizing surgical capabilities for the community.

To support this ongoing mission, additional contributions are welcome and tax-deductible, providing an excellent opportunity for community members to support local healthcare while benefiting from potential tax advantages. We extend our sincere gratitude to this year's gala hosts, Jacque and Kenneth Schumacher, for their generous hospitality.

Thanks to this generous support, Cuero Regional Hospital is better positioned to meet current healthcare challenges and continue expanding and improving healthcare services.

Our heartfelt thanks go to Two Bar, LLP, Frank Klein as general partner for their ongoing commitment and extraordinary generosity. Through these remarkable contributions, Cuero Regional Hospital continues to grow, improve, and serve as a beacon of health and wellness for our community.
