GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank You for the bountiful rain that blessed us this past week in answered prayers. We thank You for all the people around us that come our way and ask if we need anything. While, with a concerning heart, they have good intentions and are well appreciated. Help others, as well as ourselves, to return these gifts and blessings as we ask in Jesus's name. Amen.
Pray for those who are grieving, ill, suffering, or are in harms' way.
**Mathew was taking Margret, who was pregnant with twins, to the hospital when his car went out of control and crashed. Upon regaining consciousness, he saw his brother-in-law Charlie, sitting on his bedside. He asked Charlie how Margret was doing. Charlie replied, 'Don't worry, everybody is fine and you have a son and a daughter. But the hospital was in a real hurry to get the birth certificate filed and both of you were still unconscious, so I named them for you.'
Mathew was thinking to himself, 'What has my idiot brotherin- law done now?'
He said,' Well, what did you name them?'
Charlie replied, 'I named the little girl Denise.'
Mathew said, 'That's a nice pretty name. And just what did you name my son?'
Charlie smiled broadly and proudly replied, 'Denephew.'
Last week was a great big blessing as we in Nordheim received a little over 3 inches of rain. Further south of town, Tick City received over 6 inches. (You don't know of or ever heard of Tick City?) Tick City is on the border between Goliad and De-Witt counties about 7 or 8 miles South where Conoco Camp was located at one time. It is also the place where there were over a jazillion sea ticks. In fact, these mighty little ticks were all over South Texas that created dipping vats to be built for livestock, which was filled with creosote water. Ranchers herded their animals through them to drench them and kill these little vermin. How the cattle industry survived is a wonder. If you didn't get a tick off of your body or clothes, you certainly knew that it was attached in less than 24 hours causing a terrible itch in places you never expected them to be. We can thank the fire ant for their disappearance, but now we have another in its place. These pests are in the kazillion category. From one bad thing to another. Be careful of what you wish for.
In Nordheim, on Monday, May 12th, the Annual Vance Frosch Fundraiser will be held at the Fire station to provide scholarships for a graduating student this year. Keep this date open for further announcements.
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later as we have heard that our Mayor, Cathy Payne, is going to retire. Somebody thought, because, for sure, that she didn't get her raise that the City Council turned down this past year. Another thought was maybe she was going to take a years' trip around the world. All kinds of rumors are floating around in the back alleys of the town. She really claims that she is getting too old and wants to join Pres. Biden in retirement. She said she heard her electric easy chair calling her name. How old is she? We can safely say she is almost as old as dirt but still above it. All she needs now is a cold Dr. Pepper, baseball on TV, and some kind words. But she swears she will still go to Kaffee Klatch each week and enjoy, in laughter, all the things going on in Nordheim. We had ten people enjoying a good quantity of laughter which was better than any medicine one could take. See you next week.
