Yorktown senior Johnathan Guerrero brought home a state championship as he won the 132 pound weight class at the State Powerlifting Championship in Abilene, Texas on March 22, 2025. Guerrero won in dominating fashion, as he broke the state record in squat (555 pounds) and tied the deadlift record (500 pounds). Those lifts, combined with his bench press of 310 pounds, totalled 1365 pounds lifted, also a state record.
Yorktown senior Rylan Rau was also competing at the state meet. Rau broke the bench press record (485 pounds). That combined with 560 pounds on squat and 575 pounds on deadlift, totalled 1620 pounds, which was good enough for 5th place in the state in the 242 pound weight class.
