I have been blessed because of family reunions held by my wife’s family and my family.Mostofthefamilymemberscame, however some could not. It was great to visit with those that I have not seen in a while and for others to do the same.
Family reunions should have goals even though many think it is only a time for relaxation and visiting. Of course, this is the main reason however, we should think about celebrating the good things that happened over the past year. We should also think about exhorting others, talk about family legacy so the younger members can learn from the older ones, extend a charge for everyone, and remind all in attendance to remain faithful to God and their family.
This is a good time for everyone to catch up on conversations and situations from the past year. A lot of family members celebrated good situations and are excited to share their information with others. Some have faced difficult times and may be reluctant to talk, however being among loved ones may ease the burden they are facing or have faced. Others may have been through the same experience and can share solutions for overcoming these problems.
Some members may have the gift of exhortation and can give hope to overcoming problems. Sharing the good news of Jesus and His promise of eternal life will ease the earthly problems. Many times, we make more out of these earthly situations than they really are, and the calming voice of a loved one can help solve the problem. Everyone faces unwanted difficulties, and the chances are particularly good that someone in your family can help.
The writer of Hebrews tells us in 13:1-2, “Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.”( NIV) Not only are we to help and love our brothers and sisters but we, as the older generation, are to leave information about the legacy of our family to the younger ones, so that one day they can pass this inheritance of history to their younger children. Family legacy is important and each one of us should know about our past.
The best part of family reunions is to remain faithful to Jesus Christ and to each other. We, as the older generation, need to instill this into our children and grandchildren. The world is telling them something different and family units are being torn apart because of the deterioration of God’s Word and His commandments. Satan is alive and well in the world today and had it not been for our ancestors and older family members telling us about the good news of Jesus then we would be in much worse shape than we are.
All of us need to keep the family units alive and teach them to remain faithful to God and to each other. All of us need to share our faith with our brothers and sisters, we need to share our hope through each other, and we need to love one another. Family reunions are a great way to do this, and this type of reunion has been popular since God created man and woman.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for this life on earth. I pray that I may be a leader among the family you have blessed me with. I pray that we will continue ourfamilyreunionssothatwecanspread your good news to each other. Amen.
