Katie Newman, executive director of the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce, was recently awarded a prestigious scholarship to attend the Site Selectors Guild Conference in Orlando, Florida. Chosen as one of only five individuals from across the United States, Katie had the unique opportunity to engage with industry leaders and learn about the critical factors site selectors consider when evaluating communities for business development.
Thanks to a tip from Daisy Scheske Freeman, GVEC Economic Development and Community Relations Director Katie applied for the scholarship, and was honored to be selected. Despite being from one of the smallest communities represented at the conference, Katie walked away with invaluable knowledge about what makes a community attractive to potential investors and businesses. Katie is eager to not only collaborate with her community but also to strengthen her partnership with GVEC on future projects that will drive economic growth in the region. She looks forward to leveraging the insights gained from the Site Selectors Guild Conference to support both Yorktown and GVEC in attracting new opportunities and fostering long - term development.
'I learned so much about the site selection process and what selectors are specifically looking for when evaluating locations for expansion. It was a fantastic opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the factors that drive economic development and how smaller communities can position themselves for success in this competitive field,' Katie shared.
