Yorktown High School students from the Introduction to Culinary Arts class recently embarked on a delicious educational journey, visiting the newly established commercial kitchen at Center Point High School (CPHS). The visit provided an immersive experience in a stateof- the-art culinary setting, offering valuable insights into a fellow rural 2A school’s thriving culinary program.
CPHS students and faculty, led by Chef Kim Young, extended a warm welcome, showcasing their talents by preparing an exquisite homemade feast. The menu featured handmade flour and corn tortillas, a variety of tacos filled with beef, lengua, and chicken, as well as refreshing pineapple and cucumber agua frescas. To top off the meal, students indulged in three different types of tres leches cake—vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry.
The visit served as an inspiration for students, demonstrating how a well-equipped kitchen and dedicated culinary program can enhance hands-on learning. Seeing their peers in action provided valuable learning experiences and inspired our students with a vision of what their own culinary program could become.
