The Lady Gobblers topped off their final district game on Friday, April 11 with a 12-8 win in Gonzales, to come away as three-peat District Champs.

The game began with both teams scoring two runs in the first, and Gonzales taking the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the second. The score would remain the same until the top of the fourth inning when the Lady Gobblers opened up their offensive trouncing, recording 5 runs. Laela Mendiola and Audrey Kremling were the pitchers for the Lady Gobblers holding the Lady Apaches to only 8 hits in the match-up.

Cuero continued to add to their total by knocking in an additional 5 runs over the last three innings. Mendiola led the team going 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, followed by Bailey Morrow going 2 for 4. But it was the defensive strength of the Lady Gobblers that pulled out the 12-8 win as Gonzales started a come back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring 5 runs. The Lady Gobblers were able to hold off their efforts to finish out the game with the win.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Gobblers faced La-Vernia for an exciting game to solidify the first place standing. Cuero came out on top this time with an 11-10 win in front of an enthusiastic Cuero crowd. Natalie Taylor pitched 7 innings for the Lady Gobblers with 4 strike outs in the game. Morrow, Kremling, and Caroline Kubesch led the team going 2 for 3 at the plate, highlighting Kremling with 2 homeruns. Defense was the name of the game for the Lady Gobblers holding the Lady Bears from scoring additional runs with 19 hits to Cuero’s 12.

The wins give the Lady Gobblers a District Championship for the third year in a row, noting a season record of 19-5-1 and a district record of 9-1. Cuero will begin their playoff run April 26 with the location and opponent to be announced soon.
