Many years ago, I coached my daughters in slow-pitch softball. Our team consisted ofyoungladiesthatknewthegame and most of them had played throughout their high school and junior college careers. They were good and everyone of them gave their best on and off the field.
At every practice I would call on them to practice as if they were in a real game. We worked on fundamentals over and over to the point they would ask if we were going to doing anything else. However, in the games we played, and they made the plays they should, they understood that doing the little things right, made a difference in the score and outcome of the game.
During our lifetime we are going to be faced with decisions that can affect our future and our lifetime. We may not think much about these decisions because they involve miniscule reasonings and, at that time, means nothing to us. Most of us consider little sins okay and we make a quick decision to allow it to happen. A lot of us do not realize that sin is sin no matter how big or small. Little sins tend to lead us to larger sins for the ones that believe there is a difference.
The formative years of our life we should be taught by our parents, older siblings, elders, and the church what having faith in God really means. We should be taught to pray and listen to sweet voice of God. Reading God’s Word is so important for the future of our lives plus giving us a history of who listened andwhodidnotlistentoGod’swarnings.
All of us that have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord should understand that Jesus told us in Matthew 17:20 that if we have faith the size of mustard seed we can move mountains and nothing is impossible for us. When we accept Jesus into our heart, He sends us the Holy Spirit to be our conscience and our guide. He allows us to have choices on what we do, how we talk, how we help others, or what we see. As Christians, Jesus wants us to tell others about Him and His saving grace. He wants us to help others understand that Jesus provides us an eternal home after our short life on earth.
We can do all of this when we do the little things like having our quite time with God every day, reading His Word and absorbing it into our daily lives. When we do these little things which God wants us to do, then our days will become more understandable to us and we will spread the good news of Jesus to others. We will help others in their time of need. We will comfort others during their time of grief. We will build up others by praying for them every day.
The ladies’ team I had the privilege of coaching understood the mechanics of softball and why practicing the little things were important. They were all good ball players but above all their abilities on the field, they were children of the Lord Jesus and it showed through their sportsmanship and attitudes toward others. They won a lot of ball games because of how they practiced before going into a game.
All of us need to understand that we need to prepare ourselves each day before taking on the world. This is done by spending time with the Lord and reading His Word.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for each day of life that you allow me to have. I pray that I will go through each day telling others about you and your amazing grace. Amen.
