Hello all, Been a busy two weeks since my last message. Although I could not attend the Candidates Forum on April 16th, I understand it was well attended.

The Cuero Rising event sponsored by both the Chamber of Commerce and the Cuero Development Corporation on April 17th was attended by numerous business owners and citizens, plus representatives from the offices of Texas Representative AJ Louderback, Texas Senator Luis Kolkhorst and US Congressman Michael Cloud. It is refreshing to see the commitment from those folks who represent OUR interest despite their busy schedules. The Texas Legislative session is in full swing.

On April 19, ten alumni from the Citizens Police Academy met at the Sportsman’s Club ranges for weapons familiarization and demonstration. Participants were subjected to numerous firearms reports to distinguish sounds from different weapons and were offered an opportunity to shoot the AR 15, 340mm handgun and the shotgun. The Cuero Police Department relies on the alumni as eyes and ears in the community. This event assisted in their proficiency for accurate reporting in regards to weapons fire.

The Mayor’s Youth Council (MYC) met on April 22nd at the Bella Tavola Italian restaurant for the last meeting of the school year and an appreciation wrap up meal. I am extremely PROUD of the MYC members and what they accomplished this school year. The 3rd Annual AG Business luncheon hosted by the Cuero Chamber of Commerce was well attended on April 23rd. The keynote speaker was Dr. Jeffrey W. Savell, Vice Chancellor and Dean Texas A&M AgriLife College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He presented an update on AgriLife programs. It was very eye opening. Other presentations included updates from the Railroad Commission of Texas.

Thursday April 24th was a busy day with a vehicle parade lead by 1st Responder vehicles to open Career Day activities at John C. French, and then on to Kenedy for a luncheon and updates at the Conoco Phillips Operations Center. Elected officials, county judges, commissioners and mayors from counties with Conoco Phillips presence were in attendance and received, as well as shared information on their jurisdictions.

On Friday April 25th, an Oak tree dedication ceremony in honor of John C. Hamilton on Ruess Blvd. was held by the Tree Board. I was informed there are two vacant positions on the board. If you are looking for a rewarding endeavor to help the community in caring for a natural resource so important to our survival, please consider filling a position. Mr. Bill Hickey, Mr. Henry Luddecke or Ms. Tamara Kainer would be happy to talk to you.

The Mental Health Awareness Kickoff event was held at Gobbler Stadium Sunday April 27th. please remember STOP (Stop-Talk-Overcome-Pain).

The Hometown Harvest dinner on Main Street is scheduled for this Monday April 28th: great food and drink will be enjoyed by all. Please visit the Chamber and Main Street websites for events around town, there are events happening every day in Cuero, please support Community events, so we don’t lose them. Have a blessed week!! Remember to exercise your civic duty and vote this coming Saturday May 3rd. More to follow!
