Hello All Congratulations to Councilman-at-Large Adam Arroyo on his re-election. I look forward to continuing our work together. Congratulations are in order for Mr. Charles Tounley, who was elected as Councilman- at-Large, filling the vacancy by Councilman Bill Matthy’s, who decided not to run for another term. Bill served the Citizens of Cuero for 17 years, the City of Cuero owes Bill a huge debt of gratitude. I personally am going to miss his wit and wisdom. He served as Mayor Pro Tem for 14 years under 3 successive Mayors. Within the last year the Council has/will lose 31 years of historical experience with the departure of past Mayor Sarah Post Meyer, who served for 14 years and Councilman Matthy’s with 17 years. Time goes on, I am proud of the current council make up and look forward to working with our newest Councilmen. Both Councilmen Arroyo and Tounley will be sworn in at the regular council meeting on May 12, 2025.
The 6th Annual Hometown Harvest Dinner was held in front of the city hall – a good time, good food and entertainment was had by all. The young adults from the 4H and the Mayor’s Youth Council served competently. They showed motivation and determination to ensure all ticket holders were attended to properly. Shout out to Sandra Osman and Denise Goebel for another successful event.
May 1, I delivered opening remarks for the National Day of Prayer ceremony at the public library, reminding all in attendance this great nation was founded on Christian principles, in God we trust (on our money), one Nation under God (in our pledge of allegiance). Thank you to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion for presentation of the Colors and the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, respectively.
Many thanks to the American Legion Post #3, for sponsoring two members of the Mayor’s Youth Council to the American Legion Boy’s State at the University of Texas in June. I am an alumnus (1977) of the Boy’s State, which inspired me to public service after high school.
On May 2nd, Our Lady of Guadalupe held a Cinco de Mayo purse bingo at the parish hall. I did not win anything despite being one number off on 2 occasions.
The Comprehensive plan is currently in full motion. This plan will set the goals of the city for the next 10-20 years. Every Citizen in Cuero should have input on where they want to see Cuero in the future. Please provide input to this effort. Have an awesome week!! More to Follow!!
