Hello All, Very busy happenings since my last message: four Councilmen were sworn in on May 12th, and newly elected Councilman Charles Tounley was welcomed to his first meeting on Council.
Councilman District 4 Mitch Adams was selected as Mayor Pro Tem, replacing Mr. Matthys.
Mr. Bill Matthys was presented with a Texas flag flown over the Texas State capitol by Texas representative AJ Louderback’s office, a Texas Senate resolution by Senator Lios Kolkhorst and a Congressional record read into the United States House of Representatives at the meeting. May Bill and his beautiful bride, Pam, enjoy this newly found time. God bless the Matthy’s.
The Mayor’s Youth Council was recognized at the May 12th council meeting. Each member was presented with a certificate and a Letter of recommendation for their community service from the mayor. The Cuero Police Department was also recognized for their unwavering service to the citizens of Cuero. Please shake hands and thank an offi cer when you have an opportunity.
Met and welcomed the new Stevenson Unit Warden, Michael Feazell, on May 13th. He is excited to be in Cuero. I stopped by the Jailbreak Café on the way back into town, and the owners have transformed the location into a family gathering place. So awesome; please stop by! They have the beginnings of a pickle ball court, which has been asked for by citizens.
Attended the Texas Municipal League Small Town Leaders conference in Fredericksburg on May 15 and 16th. I was joined by City Manager Wayne Berger, City Secretary Jennifer Urban, Councilman (Mayor Pro Tem) Mitch Adams, and Maggie Cromeens and Samantha Solis from the Cuero Development Corporation. We heard updates on the legislative session currently in session and met and networked with mayors and councilmen/ women from other cities.
Memorial Day is next Monday. This is the time we honor those who gave their lives for the Nation’s freedom. “All gave some, some gave all.” Please take a moment on Memorial Day to honor those who gave their lives for us. I have been asked and am honored to be the keynote speaker at the American Legion Post #3 here in Cuero on Memorial Day. Please come by. Reminder: Armed Forces Day (May 17th) honors current serving military members, Veterans Day (November 11th) honors past served military members and Memorial Day (May 26th) honors our deceased heroes.
The third Citizens Police Academy will graduate this Tuesday May 20th in Council Chambers. Congratulations to all. Thank you Cpl. Josh Serbin for your oversight into the academy.
Have an awesome week, more to follow!
