50/50 Raffle to benefit Family
If you’re from Yorktown, you probably heard about the devastating house fire the Zimmermann family experienced. Thank God no one was injured, but they lost just about everything. Hannah is a member of Girl Scouts Troop #9405, so the troop decided to try to help them out with a few fundraisers. Our first is a 50/50 drawing. Tickets are available from our troop members, Dare to Dream Salon or Simmons Bank. Drawing will be held May 26th.
Yorktown Memorial Day
A Memorial Day Ceremony will be hosted by the DeWitt County Vietnam Veterans of America, Monday, May 26th, at 10:30 a.m. The Ceremony will take place at the VVA/ De-Witt County Veteran’s Memorial Helicopter Site in Yorktown. This ceremony is one of the largest in the area, with attendance increasing annually. The ceremony includes honors to those who sacrificed their lives serving our nation a very dynamic Army Helicopter Pilot/ PHI Medical Flights Pilot will serve as our guest speaker. VVA Members will provide Color Guard, Rifle Salute, Thirteen Folds of the Flag, Taps and much more.
Cuero Memorial Day
The American Legion Dinter Post #3, 310 S. Esplanade, will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26 at 2 p.m. Cuero Mayor Emil Garza will serve as guest speaker.
Yorktown Photo Contest
The Yorktown Chamber of Commerce is calling all local photographers of all ages and skill levels to submit photos that capture the beauty of our town. The winning photo will be featured on community postcards. Requirements: incorporate Yorktown, high resolution JPEG or PNG (minimum 300 dpi), landscape orientation. Submit to cc@yorktowntx. com by Friday May 30.
Indianola Exhibit
The Cuero Heritage Museum proudly presents “Honoring Our Mother: Indianola in Color,” an immersive exhibit running from February 1 to June 1, 2025, at 124 E. Church Street, Cuero. Featuring colorized historic photographs, artifacts, and a compelling video, the exhibit brings the lost port city of Indianola back to life. This exhibit offers a vivid journey through Indianola’s past, showcasing its historical significance and lasting impact on Texas. Woodman Cemetery Cleanup

History of DeWitt County 1899 available locally
Following the recent reception for the completion of ‘History of DeWitt County 1899’ by DeWitt County Historical Commission, those interested in obtaining a copy have been asking where the new books are available. Commission members have attempted to make copies of the new publication available at local and area museums and related offices. In Cuero the museums that have ‘History of DeWitt County 1899’ books available include DeWitt County Historical Museum, Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, and Cuero Heritage Museum. Also Cuero Chamber of Commerce will have a few copies of the book available to the public. In Yorktown the books are available at Yorktown Historical Museum and in Yoakum at the Yoakum Historical Museum.
Library/Crown Hospice Hosts Senior Social Hour
Crown Hospice is holding a Senior Social Hour at the Yorktown Public Library on the 1st Monday of every month. The social hour begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Bingo, prizes and snacks are all provided free of charge. The hosts look forward to you attending.

DeWitt County Shutterbugs
Do you love photography? Do you want to learn more, be inspired, challenged? Do you want to get together with other creative photographers? If so, please join us at a Shutterbugs meeting. Cuero VFW Post 3972 has resumed weekly games of Bingo at the Post Home. Games will begin at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds of these games benefit local charities, youth, and veterans in need. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Grace Episcopal Summer of Exploration camp
Join the Grace Episcopal School this summer for a Summer of Exploration summer camp and extended care. Offering half and full day options. Starting June 2nd. Child Find Evaluations
School districts must ensure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is provided for children who are identified as needing special education and related services. Child Find is a process to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. Evaluations for Cuero, Meyersville, Nursery and Westhoff ISD’s are available through Child Find. Early childhood intervention programs serve children with developmental delays and their families. Child Screening Services
Residents of Yorktown, are you aware of a child with problems walking, seeing, moving or thinking? Free screening services are available for children from birth through five years of age. Call 361-564-2252 ext. 3002 for an appointment. Screening will be held at Yorktown Elementary School.

Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed to help deliver meals in the central DeWitt County area for Meals on Wheels South Texas. Meals are delivered once a week on Wednesdays from about 11 a.m. to noon. If you are interested in volunteering you can go to mowstx.org or email [email protected].
