Nordheim held its annual May Feast from May 16th to May 18th, featuring events such as the Texas Truck and Tractor Pull, the BBQ Cook-off, the Texas Mini Rod Tractor Pull, and performances by the New Braunfels Village Brass Band.
The enthusiastic crowd filled the bleachers throughout the event during the tractor pull. As Friday evening progressed, the trucks became increasingly spectacular.
On Sunday, the cheerful and lively music of The New BraunfelsVillageBrass Band filled the Nordheim Shooting Club Dance Hall during the Nordheim May Feast. Despite only rehearsing once a month, the twenty-member band is made up of talented musicians, many of whom are professionals with experience as band directors themselves.
Alfred Tapia, the band director, was a musician and Bandmaster in the military until his retirement in 1984. He and the band perform at a variety of national and international venues and have even released a vinyl LP.
Reflecting on a past summer trip to Germany, Tapia recounted an unforgettable moment when locals complimented their performance, exclaiming, “Wow, we thought it was a German band!” Such praise affirmed the band's authenticity and connection to their cultural roots.
Another notable member, August Haufler, the first clarinet player and a fellow former band director, shared his deep-seated love for music.
“I’ve been playing clarinet since 1958, back when I was just in junior high,” he reminisced, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. 'I’m still enjoying every moment.”
Haufler's affection for his German heritage shines through his words.
“I grew up with German music. Even though I was born in San Antonio, my father inspired me to pursue music. German music has always held a special place in my heart,” he proudly stated.
Don’t miss your chance to experience the uplifting performances of the New Braunfels Village Brass Band at next May Feast in 2026. Their music truly offers a delightful journey into the soul of German culture!
A gigantic thank you to the Nordheim event planners, volunteers, vendor booths, and everyone involved!
