“If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else” - a quote attributed to the great Yogi Berra – may well apply to Cuero’s longterm planning process.
The city is building its Comprehensive Plan for the next 20 years based on the input from the community.
While the initial Comprehensive Planning Workshop on April 7 was well attended, only an estimated 50 surveys from the published QR code have been turned in.
“Last time I checked we had received 48 or so,” Rhonda Stastny, grants and special projects director, said.
She said there was “dual generation participation” in the April workshop with young people from the Mayor’s Youth Council attending.
“That’s what we want,” she said. “We want to encourage young folks to come back or to stay, so we need to know what might help with that.”
Stastny called the plan a working document, describing the process through 2025 where the consulting company, CSRS LLC, of Baton Rouge, will continue getting input from the community and presenting drafts of the different sections.
In June, CSRS will present an update to the city council on the compilation so far, Stastny said.
All aspects of community growth were addressed at the April workshop, but the next round of public hearings in July will focus on two or three specific topics, ranging from: • Economic development • Infrastructure
• Housing
• Land Use
• Library
• Main Street
• Parks
• Public services
• Transportation
As they continue to compile drafts, CSRS will ask for more input on the specific areas in August or September, according Stastny.
The final Comprehensive Plan is expected in Spring of 2026.
“This will be Cuero’s investment in the community,” Stastny said, “The city needs to hear from you.”
