Cuero honored longtime City Councilman Bill Matthys on May 22 with a reception at the Municipal Clubhouse.

Matthys served 17 years, including 14 years as Mayor Pro Tem.

He took the opportunity to bid farewell to the city staff. “You are the reason our lights are still on, and we appreciate that. I appreciate everything all of you guys have done in the 25 years my wife Pam and I have lived here. It's a good place to live. It’s a good place to live because you guys are so good at keeping all the bad stuff fixed and making sure that people don't suffer for it. And I've lived in a lot of different places, I can't tell you how proud I am to be associated with a group of people who work for the city of Cuero. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
