Since December of 2022, the StudioBuilt factory on Gazzie Street has crafted 100 modular homes. On May 20, the 65 employees celebrated the milestone together with a ceremony at the start of the workday.
'Reaching the 100home mark is an exciting milestone for StudioBuilt and a proud moment for our entire team here in Cuero,” Joe Butler, head of StudioBuilt, said. “It’s a testament to the hard work, talent, and dedication that powers this facility every day.”
Previously a textile factory, the facility was purchased by StudioBuilt’s parent company, Amherst, in 2022, and they produced their first home in December of that same year.
That first home sits across the street from the StudioBuilt office with a model home next to it. In the fenced parking lot, customers can see an un-assembled “box” for close examination.
In January, the company started taking orders from individuals, including two area residents. Before that orders were filled for parent company, Amherst, as well as Main Street Renewal.
“There’s lots of demand,” Human Resources Manager Constance Donel said, calling each section a box. Homes can be joined in several ways, including as multiple stories and duplexes.
She said the boxes are usually transported in the morning during low traffic times.
“We’re just getting started,” Butler said, “and I’m looking forward to everything we’ll build together in the years ahead.'
