County Judge Daryl Fowler swore in Lindsay Renee Ruppert as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 on May 28, in a packed DeWitt County courthouse.
Her husband, Jeff, held the Bible during the ceremony, which was attended by family, friends, and supporters from DeWitt and Lavaca Counties.
Judge Fowler welcomed the attendees. “I don’t know when it was the last time we had such a large group of folks representing Lavaca County and Yoakum, etc., here. We are certainly glad to have you and would like to invite those of you who haven’t been here to walk around the courthouse. There are no fees today,” he joked.
He outlined the tasks awaiting JP1 Ruppert, including the collection of over a million dollars in outstanding fines and fees that still need to be processed from the COVID years, as well as a transition to electronic record-keeping.
He expressed gratitude to JP McBride.
“Thanks to Judge Mc-Bride for filling in, keeping that office running, and bringing it up to
SEE PEACE, PAGE _ date. We all know, those in county business, that the world is moving toward paperless operations,” he said.
Pastor Toby Garza from JP Ruppert’s church, Cross Fellowship, offered a prayer.
Ruppert's appointment is for an unexpired term that will end on December 31, 2026. This position was vacated by Peggy Mayer’s retirement on March 28.
JP Ruppert said she is eager to get to work.
“I’m very thankful to be able to serve DeWitt County,” she said. “I look forward to getting to work and making a difference for the community.”
