Bringing light into the world

As I was watching a movie recently there was a scene of a young man and woman going across a bridge in a park. As they walked across the arced wooden bridge over a small stream, they were carrying lanterns. It was a tradition of the town they were in to do this at the yearly festival. The young man, being new to the community, asked why this was a tradition for the townspeople. The young lady answered him saying, “We feel it helps bring light into the world.”

I thought this phrase was tremendous since this is what all of us should be doing. We are amid a dark world filled with sin and ugliness. All one must do is look around and see what Satan is doing. After all, God allows him to be the prince of the air.

Every day we are going to encounter people and situations. Some of these people or situations are going to offer challenges to which we must give answers. Being a Christian, especially during these trying times of unrest and a pandemic, is troublesome to a lot of people. We are judged on our appearance, demeanor, actions, speech, loyalty to each other, and our loyalty to the one and true Holy God.

It is during these times that we must stand up and speak up for the Lord Jesus. The problem is that we do not want to do this because we fear being scrutinized, looked down on, talked about, or just do not fit in with the crowd. We are told to keep our mouth shut and do not speak about a living Savior.

I have found that during my adventures of life, there is always an opportunity of speaking to someone about the Saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Most of the people you encounter will put up a front about not hearing about God because they do not want to give up the ways of the world. My reply is that you do not have to give up your sinful ways. If you truly trust Jesus to be your Lord and Savior your heart will be transformed. You will detest your sinful ways and look to Jesus to be your guiding light in this dark world. All of us must remember that we are only on this earth for a short time. When we have Jesus in our heart and our life, we know that eternity with Him is our heavenly reward.

Many of us as children feared the dark. We would cry out to our parents to provide a light for us and stay close to us so we could rest. The same is true today except we are older and searching for a light that will continually provide a way for us. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and we are to be His disciples and share His good news to anyone and everyone.

Just as the couple crossing the bridge was carrying a lantern to provide light, we are also a beacon for Christ in all that we do. Our trust is in Him and not in the world. We can bring light into the world by our actions and our voice. Will you be a light in this dark world and share Jesus with everyone?

Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus for guiding me amidst these troublesome times. Help me to be a light for you in everything that I do. Amen.
