Each year the De-Witt County Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1029, work to raise money to help five seniors continue their education. They ask applicants to write an essay about some aspect of freedom in America and host a special dinner presentation in June.

This year, 27 seniors reflected on the prompts of 1) How important is the First Amendment, and 2) Why did the Founding Fathers make it the First Amendment?

The selection committee chose the essays of three Nordheim students (Jackson Tam, Pedro Villanueva and Connly Metting), a Cuero student (Alexis Flessner) and a Yoakum student (Olivia Joyt) as representing the best thoughts, earning them each a $1,000 scholarship.
