4-H shotgun shooters compete at state

Ten DeWitt County 4-H Shotgun shooters participated in the 2024 4-H State Shotgun Games July 17-20. They participated in shooting American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, American Trap, Doubles Trap, Whizbang and Sporting Clays. They were Senior 1: Ty Fehner and Kaitlyn Roeder, Intermediate: Brody Breeden, Brylon Brewer, Ruger Chumchal, Gunnar Frank, Elias Gomez, Wyatt James and Carter Roeder, and Junior: Eli Roeder.

Ten DeWitt County 4-H Shotgun shooters participated in the 2024 4-H State Shotgun Games July 17-20. They participated in shooting American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, American Trap, Doubles Trap, Whizbang and Sporting Clays. They were Senior 1: Ty Fehner and Kaitlyn Roeder, Intermediate: Brody Breeden, Brylon Brewer, Ruger Chumchal, Gunnar Frank, Elias Gomez, Wyatt James and Carter Roeder, and Junior: Eli Roeder.

An outstanding showing by Elias Gomez, who shot his first 100 straight in American Trap, earned him Intermediate Open 1st place that was so fun to watch. He also got to shoot off for 2nd and 3rd place American HOA.

Another exciting moment was the top three Intermediate shooters in doubles trap were all from Dewitt County: Brody Breeden, Gunnar Frank and Carter Roeder all tied for 1st place in Trap Doubles, where they had to shoot off. Brody won first, Carter second and Gunnar was third.

There was also a fiveway tie for 2nd in Intermediate Skeet Doubles that involved Brody and Gunnar. Gunnar won second and Brody won fifth. The two-man team of Carter and Gunnar won 3rd Place for American Trap. The three-man team of Brody, Elias and Wyatt were the highest scoring, and the two-man team of Carter and Gunnar were the highest scoring in trap doubles. In doubles skeet Gunnar and Carter were the highest scoring two-man team.

In the Junior Open Division, Eli Roeder was in a three-way tie for first place with shooting a 47 out of 50. In the shoot off he won 2nd place. With a total of 90 clays shot in American Trap and American Skeet, he won 3rd place HOA.

In the Senior 1 Girls Division Kaitlyn shot a 96 out of 100 winning 3rd Place in American Skeet.
