GOD first...Heavenly Father, through the years of our lives, we keep looking for assurance. Your love, that keeps being given to us in so many ways, overcomes the sin within us. Each day we ask for forgiveness only to find more and greater love. Give us courage to share this love with those around us as we look into the hearts of those that are struggling. In Christ' name we pray. Amen.
Pray for those who are ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harm's way.
**One day, Marie sent her little boy, Johnny, to the pond to get a bucket of water for cooking dinner. As he was dipping the bucket into the pond, he saw two big eyes looking back at him from the water. He dropped the bucket and hightailed back to the kitchen.
'Now where is my bucket of water?' Marie asked him.
'I can't get any water from that pond, mama, because there is a big alligator down there.'
'Now don't you mind that ole gater, Johnny, he's been there for many years now and ain't ever hurt anybody. Shucks, he's probably as scared of you as you were scared of him.'
'Well, mama,' replied Johnny. 'If he was as scared of me as I am of him, then dat water ain't fit to drink no how!'
There is something I've never seen before, at least on a field less than a mile south of Nordheim on Cemetery Road. This field had a crop of wheat harvested last May and now, cotton has been planted. It's easy to see it in rows where there is still wheat stubble. With all this rain we have had, it really looks good. It makes good sense to try for two crops. Might even get my old cotton sack out of the storage bin and get it ready. It's the same plot of land that Mary Louise and Gloria Jean picked cotton when they were in high school.
This past week, there was a report of a rattle snake on the Voelkel Ranch. Tim dispatched it with a short board, a couple of rocks, and a hammer. To make sure it was dead, he shot it two times. You never know.
Lili’s Place is celebrating her one-year anniversary as a general store and eatery. She celebrated with a special of baked potatoes with pulled pork. Really good! Congratulations Lili!
Kaffee Klatch was very interesting this past week. Dennis said he had a half inch of rain about 7a.m. before coming to Nordheim. Some people get lucky. Although many subjects were discussed, a group of 15 people came to fill the room with laughter and at times, some seriousness and some were informative. Take for instance, how and why do people eat mud bugs or what some use for bait. Yes, the almighty Crawfi sh. Some are cooked with rice (Cajun style of course) and some are boiled, some are bayou specialities beyond compare. There were a few coffee drinkers who have experienced eating these creatures, while some have decided to starve to death before they would eat a crustacean that came out of a muddy pond. A couple of coffee drinkers had to swallow very hard to keep from upchucking.
Back in our grade school days, we would go down to a little ditch (back when it rained a lot) behind the school and with a piece of string and a little bit of bacon, we would pitch it into the water and slowly pull it back to shore and catch one of these little creatures by hand and chase screaming girls during recess. Those were the good ole days. See you next week, I hope.
