Retired teacher hit by truck and dies on Morgan Street
Out for her morning walk on July 4th, retired teacher Ruth Anne Killough, 62, turned back on Morgan Street toward her house and was struck by a Dodge Ram truck.
Witnesses reported that a young couple tried to assist her with life saving measures until the EMS arrived to begin treatment.
According to a statement from Cuero PD Chief Steve Ellis, it was determined on the scene that there was nothing further the EMS could do to save the victim due to the severity of her injuries.
Ellis said the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained on scene. He was treated on scene by Cuero EMS and interviewed by an accident investigator.
“There were no signs of impairment with the driver at the time of the incident. According to the driver, he did not see the victim crossing the roadway and attempted to stop prior to striking her,” Ellis said in the statement.

RUTH KILLOUGH
A witness informed officers that the vehicle did not appear to be driving reckless or over the speed limit. Citations were issued to the driver of the vehicle involved for non-moving violations. No other charges are expected to be filed at this time.
The Cuero Police Department was assisted at the scene by Cuero EMS, Cuero Fire, Justice of the Peace Pct.2 and the Dewitt County Sheriff’s Office. Ellis was also thankful to the citizens who stopped to render aid.
